I got the adapter for the ProFlex so I can use it on my Raptor. Unfortunately the ProFlex won't fit the adapter, however it fits my Stratus clutch shaft perfectly.

I do not want to force it to get in and damage the bearing when doing it. Should I just send it back and get a new adapter? Sand paper might do the the trick I just do not know if I should use it on the adapter?

I don’t know the Rap shaft size but if it’s 6mm I bet it is close to going on. Put adapter in lathe and drill over a thousand or two and it will work I bet. You could sand the start shaft but you don’t want crap getting the bearings so you might need to take it apart to go this wrought. I don’t see any problem with fitting things like this, I do it when I need to :glasses2:

I'm a little confused. Does the adapter not fit the Raptor or does it not fit the Pro-Flex?

If I am not mistaken the Raptor clutch shaft has a dimple or flat on the shaft. You really don't want to use the Proflex on a shaft that some thing of modification on it.

I would call Ron at Ricks and see what he says about the adapter. Ron has been selling those adapters for a number of years. This is the first time I have heard of the Proflex not working.
Now on another note: If this is the newest Proflex that has the brass bushing in the tip. That may be what is making the differences. The brass bushing ID may just be a few thousands smaller to help support the shaft and keep from damaging the bearings.

Russ,

The Raptor shaft is 6mm and the ProFlex fits it but unfortunately it's got a CNC flat. Moreover the set screws that I use with the hex adapter really left a mark on the shaft. Actually that's why I got the adapter.

Capebob,

The adapter fits the Raptor shaft but not Proflex.

David,

Yes this is the new ProFlex (that might be the problem). As I said, before If push really hard (something I have not done and do not want to) "it might" go not sure, doh.

So you guys do not think sanding the adapters is a good idea -did not think so either. Well it seem that I will need to talk to Karen on Monday.

One more question, do you know guys if this adapter is manufacturated by MA -it came in a regular plastic bag without the X-cell logo and stuff.

I have the adapter that you're using that I got from Rick's. I haven't used it with the new head, but it did fit the old Pro-Flex, but it was a tighter fit. Since then I've abandoned the Pro-Flex for hex adapters on all my machines. Now I can start them all with one starter shaft.

The adapter from Rick's is one that Ron has manufactered. MA use to make an adapter to fit on the XL 30 that was for the ProFlex. But they quit having them made a few years ago. Ron started then having adapters made.

My opinion, you can probably take an Xacto knife to the brass bushing in the end of the Proflex. All you probably need to do is remove very little all the way around I would think it would slip on the adapter.

Thanks, I'll try with the knife and see how it goes.

We have abused my new tip and it is really holding up great. Let us know how the knife works.

After resizing the adapter I went ahead and use my ProFlex for the first time today.

The first time was really smooth and nice.

Second time the ProFlex got stocked on the adapter. It took me a while to pull the adapter out and now I can see the marks that the ProFlex left on the adapter shaft. Should I just call MA and see what they say?

I had that problem with the adapter I got from Ricks. I think the metal used is too soft. I'm not sure how much help MA will be in trying to get your Raptor started. I still believe if you have more than one brand of helicopter to start a hex shaft is the way to go.

I think you're right, I thought that the ProFlex will be a nice tool to have but I'm heading back to Hex shaft. Any suggestions about which one to buy, I was thinking about getting this one:

I would think when you sized the adapter. That you got below the surface material that had been hardened in the hardening process. I would not hold Rick's at fault for there adapter. A manufactuer is not responsible for a part when it has been modified.

I am not blaming Rick's, not ata all !!! In any case I'm blaming myself for trying to use the same systems for my two birds. Now I just think I'll be better off using the hex shaft, that's it. I only hope I did not damaged the one way bearing so I can sell the ProFlex, anyone interested?

I'm not familiar with that unit, but at $63 it should be good. I bought the new Sullivan unit for $55, but had a problem with the hex not being properly hardened. The hex started my Stratus exactly three times before failing. Sullivan has since improved their product and replaced my unit under warranty. Since I was told by Sullivan that it would be several weeks before they would have the new probes available I bought the Mavrikk one for $31. It has been great and it was relatively inexpensive. I have received my new unit from Sullivan, but have not used it because my Mavrikk unit is working so well.
