You use the extra plug on your battery pack to connect to the balancer. It basically sits there a few seconds and gives an indication of whats going on via some LED's. If it's out of balance, it tries to bring it back in balance by discharging the higher pack down to the lowest pack. If it's too far out of whack, it will indicate that and will stop. If its that far gone, it might have a bad cell.

Once it deems the pack balanced, you just charge the pack normally. You can charge the pack with the balancer connected, but I have no experience doing that yet.

This works well with the TP packs and the TP Balancer. If you have another brand of battery, you need to check that the wiring is correct, or you need to make up an adapter to get the wiring correct from the balancer circuit.

Skip the Triton, (a Schulze isl-330 is less than double the cost). The Triton is a OK charger, but there are LOTS better for charging the LiPo's.

You are also getting 2 TP chargers from me. ;)

A Trition charger would be fine for most users.I would personally suggest the Accu Cycle Elite rather than the Trition, but that is just me. I like the dual outputs that the Elite has.

If you are planning on charging anything over a 3S in the future then there are better chargers out there. My suggesting in this case would be to go with the new Thunder Power 1010 charger.

As far as a balancer goes. YES it is worth every penny, expecially for the 205 model at only $50. High discharge lipo cells have to be very, very close to each other in voltage of they go bad really fast.. The TP205 is compatible with Apex cells as well as Align cells with an adapter. I suspect that they will be compatiable with any type of cell with the correct adapter.
So, to answer your questing. Yes. Make sure to get a balancer to keep those lipo cells healthy.
