Hi everyone,
These two birds were recently taken out of storage to get back into research. The student who used them for his thesis graduated about a year ago and now myself and a couple others are starting the program back up again. Anywho, here are some specs:
Bergen Industrial Twin (I think, I can't find any receipts so if you wouldn't mind confirming this I'd be grateful)
X-Cell Gasser
Gy401 Gyros
Fut S9151 head/throttle servos
Fut S9254 Tail
Fut 9 transmitter
The pics are here

Some of the thumbnails might be broken, but the links do work.
The problem is limited documentation were passed down with these helis. I have been reading about proper mixtures to run the engines and it seems most recommend 4-5oz/gallon of oil. In the few pages of flight notes I have it seems they were flying the helis at almost 6oz of oil. I'm a nitro/electric guy so this is all new, but should I mix at 4-5ozish and then adjust from there to be safe? Is an oil such as Yamalube sufficient?
The Bergen has not been flown yet since storage, but I am told it was wrecked and repaired in the past. They say it always had high freq vibrations and no one liked it. From the videos I have seen on the Bergen site, this leads me to believe they had it way out of tune.
I have flown the X-Cell twice, only a few minutes each flight because of high freq tail shimmies. After the first flight I checked the mechanics of the heli's head and tail and all seem to be fine, but shortly leaving ground effect in the second flight it began wagging again. Are gassers susceptible to tail wag if the engine is running lean/rich?
I am planning to change the plugs in both birds, get a good gas/oil mix and try to work out these bugs. Any comments you might have to get these puppies up and working hard again are welcome, thanks for reading :)
