Hi,

I don't think this can be done with out changing all my rx connections but someone might know. I'm using a 14mz and have a spare 9C which I want to connect up and use a trainer but I am using a 149rx and have the servo's connected as per the 14mz's grouping eg, 1 = Throttle instead of the 9C's 1 = Aileron. So when I pull the trianer switch on the 14 left and right aileron on the 9c controls the throttle

The only way I can see to do it is connect the rx up as per the 9C functions and change the functions in the 14 ?

Is there another way with out messing up all my settings and connections ???

Simon.

NOTE: This trainer system can be used in the
following manner;
1. In the T14MZ transmitter and a conventional
transmitter, if the channel order is different. It
is necessary to match the channel order in
the Linkage Menu when connecting it with
other than a T14MZ.
2. When the T14MZ is used as the Teacher,
set the modulation mode of the student’
s transmitter to PPM. If being used as the
student, set the T14MZ to the modulation
mode specifi ed by the Instructors’ transmitter.
When the Instructors’ transmitter is a T14MZ,
T9Z, T9C or T7C transmitter, it should be
switched to PPM mode.
3. Be sure that all channels work correctly in
both transmitters before fl ying.

Basically you go into the Trainer menu of the 14MZ. You select the Student Radio and then select 8ch and PPM for the Student radio. When you select 8ch that will let the 14MZ know the channel order for the Student radio is going to be the same as the channel order has been in the past for the other Futaba radios.

You've lost me ??? :)

I wan to use my 14 as the Teacher radio as it already set up for my Raptpr 50 and use the 9C as the student but I don't think I can do it like this unless I set up the 9C as the Teacher which would mean swapping all my servo's around in the rx and then I can set the 14 like you said as the student and use the function menu to assign what channel is what ?

14MZ you want to use as the MASTER radio. ( Teacher)
9C you want to use as the SLAVE radio ( Student)

If you look at page 31 and 32 of the Manual it explains how to do that.

Go to the Trainer menu in the 14MZ

Teacher mode
1. Set "Teacher/Student" button to "Teacher".
2. Change "ACT/INH" button from "INH" to "OFF"
or "ON".
3. Set "12CH/8CH" to "12CH" when the student is
using T14MZ. Otherwise set it to "8CH".
4. Call up the Switch Setting screen by touching
"Switch". Then set the desired switch and on/
off direction.
5. Select the switch mode. If you select "NORM",
the trainer function will be turned on or off
by a switch position. If you select "ALT", ON
and OFF of the trainer function switches
alternatively every time the switch is turned
on. This means the student side can be
operated without holding the switch lever.
6. The Instructor side selects the channel
for control. Three operating modes are
available.
Trainer Trainer system starting and setting
The Trainer function makes it possible for the
instructor to choose which functions and channels
are to be used for instruction, making it possible to
match the training ability to the student's skill level.
Two transmitters must be connected by an optional
Trainer Cord, and the Instructorsʼ transmitter
should be programmed for trainer operation, as
described below.
When the Instructor activates the trainer switch,
the student has control of the aircraft (if MIX or
FUNC mode is turned on, the Instructor can make
corrections while the student has control). When
the switch is released the Instructor regains control.
This is very useful if the student gets the aircraft
into an undesirable situation.
NOTE: This trainer system can be used in the
following manner;
1. In the T14MZ transmitter and a conventional
transmitter, if the channel order is different. It
is necessary to match the channel order in
the Linkage Menu when connecting it with
other than a T14MZ.
2. When the T14MZ is used as the Teacher,
set the modulation mode of the student’
s transmitter to PPM. If being used as the
student, set the T14MZ to the modulation
mode specifi ed by the Instructors’ transmitter.
When the Instructors’ transmitter is a T14MZ,
T9Z, T9C or T7C transmitter, it should be
switched to PPM mode.
3. Be sure that all channels work correctly in
both transmitters before fl ying.
●Return to System Menu
● Touch the [Trainer] button at the System Menu to
call the setup screen shown below.
(The display screen is an example. The screen depends on the model type.)
"NORM" mode (Normal mode);
Student side has no control of mixes and
settings in Teachers radio..
"MIX" mode;
Student has full advantage of all setting in
Teachers radio, plus Teacher has the option
to change any setting while Student has
control.
"FUNC" mode (Function mode);
Student has control of mixes and rate settings
of Teachers radio.
[Notes]
1. In the teacher mode, the trainer function
display does not come on as long as the
student's transmitter is not receiving signals
from the teacher's transmitter (when the
student's transmitter is not connected).

1st Box Unhibit it should say OFF and not INH
2nd box Set to Teacher
3rd Box 8CH it needs to say 8ch to use the 9C as a Student transmitter
4th box assign the switch you want to control turning the trainer function off and on.

Now the boxes next to each channel on the right side of the menu.
Under the MODE column. Set each box to NORM for each channel.

Make sure the 9C is in PPM mode. Also the 9C power switch will be in the OFF position when used as a student radio.

The above should allow you to use the 9C as a Student radio with the 14MZ as a Teacher radio. You should not to do anything but turn on the 14MZ when it is hooked to the 9C. Then turn the trainer function off and on by the switch you selected. When it is ON, the student( 9C) will have control. When it is OFF the Teacher( 14MZ) will have control. Just switch back and forth when needed. Hope this explains it.

Hi,
David, did you read the question???:hammer
Simon is not asking how to set the trainer mode but if there is a way to have the same channel assignment on both radios without touching his receiver...
The answer is simple... No!
Simon, you have to connect your servos at the right place like if you were using the 9C. This is strange in the first place that your channels are assigned like for PCM G3 but with a 9 channels receiver?! It is not necessary at all.
The trouble is that you have to change the throttle channel and you will eventually loose your throttle curve settings and some others.:(
With the last firmware there is an automatic reassignment feature that could help...
Do some test with a copy of your model.
If a simple change of channel make you lose some settings you could try for example to change (always from a fresh copy of your model) frequency to 2.4 GHz (you need a module plugged in for that) and let the radio reassign channels. Then put back your old module and change back to let say 8 channels PPM (or 9 channels PCM) and see if the channel are correct.
I don't know if this last part (automatic reassignment to 8-9 channels) works but if so you will only have to change your receiver connectors.
