My gasser is the best of all ever made or that will be ever made and it's mine! :Bang
On a more serious note have you looked at Bergen's? I have EB version and if built correctly the first time nothing wears , well only torque tube dogbone coupler which is about $10 and takes 15minutes to change. It lasts about 2-3 gallons.
Be more specific about describing what you want or nobody will be able to answer such a vague question.

Come on buddy, you have to pick either 2 or 3...

DR Rivet,
You must have something not set up correctly if you are going through dog bones. Are you backing the tail boom 1-2mm after putting the boom in the front transmission completely? The only time in two years of flying 2 Bergen's that I had a dog bone issues was after a bad crash. Then I just broke the female side.

yes, It's backed out 1-2mm. I've posted this before and Chris said it was normal wear. What happens is that dogbone pin makes indentations in the coupler grooves and tail hub rotational slop gets very large over time. Usually when it reaches +-30 deg (60 deg total) it's time for a new coupler. I'm running 611 gyro and I think should try to increase delay for start and stop. What do you think?

Dr Rivet,
I'm running a 401 on the gasser and 611 on the turbine. I use only stock settings. I think the delay parameter is only for non digital servos but I could be wrong. Something just doesn't sound right mechanically. I've got over 50 hours of flight time on the turbine and never had an issue.
Hope you can figure that issue out.

Many posts about it on Runryder in the gasser forum, visit there and do some reading! You can also find videos of it flying as well.
Mine will be 3 years old this September, and I've got 527 happy 15 minute flights on it so far :)

I also love my Spectra G. I've had the Predator, the older X-Cell gasser, and the Spectra, and the Spectra is the best of all. Flies like a 90, where the others I've had flew heavy.

Just came back from another great evening with my Predator SE/GS (over 3 years old now, and still going strong). From its 3rd flight on (and now have burned many gallons through it) it has been doing some pretty hard 3D, and has never missed a beat.
It performes hard 3D better then any 60 I have ever had, and ALMOST as good as my 90's.
Personally, I don't think any gasser can outperform a good 90, simply because of the power to weight ratios involved. Both the Preddy and the Spectra will come weighing in at 12 1/2 to 13 pounds, with an engine that produces LESS power, and about the same torque, as a 90 nitro engine. But, because the 90 power system is so much lighter, the equivalent 90 nitro heli will weigh 20% less. This is, and always will be, a noticeable difference, specially noticeable when one is performing hi-g and other extreme 3D maneuvers.

I'd Go for a Bergen. It's reallly top quality material and engineering

Gyro Al hit the nail on the head and I 100% agree. Although larger engine included a stroker mod are in the works we will get closer, but never be a 90 for snappyness. I accept a gasser for what it is and apreaciate it. Although its nice to have advancement.
Gyro Al do you have any videos of your bird. What engine rpm and gears are you running?

While I agree what is being said about Gassers, they can perform almost all 3D moves. There are great videos of Malorie flying the snot out Bergens and while I am in no way a 3D flier I am beginning to do some manuvers way up high. They will most likely never be the same as a Nitro or Electric, but they can perform some sweet smooth moves that is nicer to watch then just stick banging an over powered Nitro bird.
What really rocks is the operating costs for a Gasser. The Gasser will cost you pennies a flight rather then dollars per flight and I can buy my fuel at the cheapest place around town rather then being stuck at my local hobby store paying their crazy prices. With a generator, I have no need to charge batteries and you can use a very small battery to save weight and provide some backup power should the generator fail. Can't do that on a Nitro or Electric:nanabobo

Fast tick tocks not possible really, but I have seen some very nice pyro flips with them.

Mine is one of the first ali framed units they came out with. I made some vids of it on the wekend, hoping to get them on youtube, unfortunately the man on the camera kept loosing it through many of the maneuvers that change directions quickly so we will have to try again.
But here is a video that clearly shows what a gasser is capable of.

One of the features I also realIy like about these bigger helis, is how slowly you can fly it through a maneuver, as it is so visible and predictable through it all, and how fast it can be flown through the same maneuvers.

Slow tick tocs are possible! Do that have to be fast? Maybe the speed gives higher thrills!!!

That is one great "gasser" video, no matter who you are.
90 sized heli's are so much more fun than the smaller ones.
Predator Gasser and Rapter e710 here.

so i been looking for a 90 after building and flying my 600. was thinking 700 but really think a gasser is better for my flying style and money.
so its
Bergen or MA
not really into hard 3D but is slowly learning now. i wanna get a gasser to more flight time to practice and less starting equipment.
what are the pros and cons for:
MA spectra G
Bergen EB Gasser
1. cost
2. quality
3. equipment needed (high spec, low spec)
4. operation cost
5. parts and upgrades
thanks.
winter build break. my 600 is on the bench too for total overhaul but wanna fly the gasser this winter maybe?
can a gasser fly all season long?

The Bergen EB is intended to run 800/810mm blades, where as the Spectra G runs 710/720's, so you are looking at 2 different styles of setup.
More comparable would be the standard Intrepid Gasser, which also runs 710/720mm blades.
Yes, we fly gassers all year 'round!! :)

chris, thanks for your reply
1. one thing what is the different in flying from the standard or the EB version?
2. do you have a list of equipment that is tested for your heli? (electronics)
3. do you supply painted canopies?
any other supplies i need? (gas jug, starting supplies, etc....)

all you gasser fliers
why fly it and do you also fly nitro too? what's the differences?
im trying real hard to make up my mind :arggg:
700 or gasser
then what company and why? :cheers

I fly both, the gasser is different in the air. Flying wise, I think a 90 is more fun, but the lower cost of ownership and convenience of the gasser is why I fly it more often. The 90 is quicker in the air and has more power, and just has a lighter feel. That's not to say the gasser is slow or weak, it's not, but it's a pretty big transition if you're normally flying a glow 50, while a 90 just feels like a bigger more powerful heli.
As for which to get, if I were getting a 90, I'd buy a T-rex 700. In fact, I'm going to buy one soon. For a gasser, I like the Spectra, it's the closest in feel to a 90 of the gassers that I've flown.

will it price out the same? (as in kit plus electronics)
700 or Spectra
and i'm not getting any cheap hardware why waste the time and energy i just wanna get as much flight time so next summer i'll try more 3D.
think around 2500 to 3000?
thinking also what equipment i can use for the other heli and downgrade the 600.
i got:
GV-1
611 with BLS
BLS 431
can any of this go on a gasser and then i buy some cheaper stuff for my other bird

That'll all be fine on a Spectra. Here's what mine cost:
$1150 Spectra wtih Tempest head
$450 TRM 231 motor
$150 Muffler
A 700 is a lot less
$700 T-rex 700
$340 YS91SR
$200 Hatori
Other than that, the rest is all the same. So, $1750 vs $1240, basically $500 difference in the airframes with motor and exhaust. You're going to save a huge amount of money on fuel, I figure my cost savings at about $5 a flight in fuel, so in 100 flights you've made up the difference in intial investments in fuel. Add in much longer flight times, no mess on the heli, no starting equipment, and the gasser makes a lot of sense.
