I fly a stock B400. In normal mode at mid stick the throttle is 50%, hover is just past mid stick. When I switch to idle up mode at same stick position, throttle is 85% which causes a sudden shock to go through the heli. They set these at the factory and say this is a smooth transision. Dosent seem like it to me. Would it be bad to change my idle up mid stick closer to the 50%. I'm new at this so any help would be great. I also fly the cp pro and the transision from normal to stunt is not noticable. Thanks

what you could do is switch to idle up while the heli is on the ground....
Start the spool up and after it is up to about 50% while still on the ground, flip the switch to idle up and then lift off. Once you are in idle up mode, it's only pitch that changes (pretty much) so as long as your pitch in normal is 0 at mid stick and the same in idle up, all that should happen is the motor spool up further.

So going from 50% to 85% in a split second is not bad for the motor or speed controler?

no, it shouldn't hurt anything.

the key to doing that is making sure that the PITCH is the same when you switch over.

Ok, Do most land there heli while in the idle up mode or do they go back to normal mode to land?

Well, I land in idle up. I can't speak for everybody on this
however, so let's hear from some other pilots.

I land in throttle hold. The shock from 50 to 85 is not bad on that size heli. Usually it's the main gear that's the weak point and will strip if you try to change the load on the motor too quickly. Quickly accelerating the main rotor from a dead stop for example...
