I just bought a new Spektrum DX6i transmitter and ar6000 receiver to replace my old 72Mhz FM transmitter and receiver. I'd heard good things, and the price given the features seemed to be a pretty good deal. OMG! I love this thing. In all honesty, the manual that comes with it did nothing but befuddle and confuse me, and is really written only for fixed wing pilots, so it was a bit of a learning curve to wade through the menus, and more than once or twice over the last couple of days, I had to beg programming help from others who bought one of these. However, once I got it all set up and programmed, I fell completely in love with this baby.

The one thing that I think is really missing out there is a good guide for setting this thing up to work with a T-REX. There are a lot of good guides for the DX7, but the menus and interface are different enough to make using those guides only partially useful, and just getting my 401 into HH mode was a long process of trial and error.

Now that I've done it, I think I'm going to put together a DX6i / T-REX 450 SE guide to spare others the endless mistakes that I made setting it up.

I'm not one to normally rave about a product, having had more than my fair share of dissapointments with new purchases, but I absolutely love this thing.

My only criticisms are that the manual is not particularily useful for someone new to the hobby (or even with years of experience to tell the truth). It took me forever to figure out how the heck to bind the TX to the RX for example, and the gyro setup took forever as there is nothing in the manual or interface to indicate how the heck to enable heading hold mode. The other criticism is that the width of the TX is a little wider than I'm comfortable with. That's just going to take some getting used to though.

Anyone else out there with a T-REX 450 and this transmitter have any words of advice, warnings or tips that I could use to get the very most out of this thing?

I have to agree with your thoughts on the Dx6i.... i was using the stock TX's that my falcon 3D and Shark 450 came with for the first few months i flew these birds..... The dx6i is perfect for what i do, i have 4 birds now, the Flacon 3d, Shark 450, Flasher 450, and the BlackHawk 500 se pro. all on Spektrum. the only thing i kinda dislike with the radio is the cheap plastic "roller", mine broke last week, simply sitting down and setting up a new build, I was thumbing through the menu, setting up the swash mixing when "pop", the roller broke, i managed to repair it, but they could have made this out of metal. it gets used ALOT, when setting up/changing settings.... plastic is just too light for this task IMO.:dontknow

other than that, its a great, easy to navigate radio that will do 10 birds. and the price is right.

I considered a DX-6i for about three minutes. I played with one at a hobby shop, and decided on a DX-7. Just liked the DX-7 better, it felt more high quality. The DX-6i is massively superior to any rtf tx though, so good buy...

Is there a similar resource for the DX7? It looks like a great guide, but I believe there are significant differences between the DX6 & 7. Another resource for the XP9303 (w/Spektrum module) as well, maybe?
