I'm thinking about getting a foamie. I've got a DX6 tx w/ AR6000 rx. For servos I have 4 Spectrum S75. I have an Align 35A BEC/ESC from an old heli. Will this equipment work in a foamie? I was thinking about getting an Easy Star. Any other recommendations? I've also got an align 430L brushless motor hanging around. Would that be good for a plane or are they just for helis?

It would be nice to get an answer to this seeing that I have electronics from several heli's that i'd like to use in a foamie myself. Let me know how you make out.. Thanks

The Easy Star is a wonderful flying little plane. I have one and it's a blast to fly! :smokin:

It comes with a brushed motor that works just fine. I used HS-81 servos in mine, the S75s are a bit smaller but should work. All you'll need for it would be a brushed motor ESC and a battery pack. I use NiMh packs from Cheap Battery packs: http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/main.asp?sid=1232911&pgid=superlisting&type=airplane&manufacturer=12&model=344

About $23 a pack from them, Flight times without thermals is an easy 15 minutes. With Thermals I've flown 25-30 minutes on a charge!

The only modifications that I made was to replace the stock push on prop with a prop adapter and prop.

BTW, the heli motor has too high of a Kv to be useful in a plane.

Great thanks... what do you mean when you mention thermals?

Thermals, as in hot air rising. The wing loading is light enough that just like with a glider.....you can get in a thermal and climb with the motor off! The first time I caught one it was a thrill!

Thank you for the reply. I have many 3 cell 11.1volt 2200mA from my trex 450. Will I be able to to use these batteries in an Easy Star? I only have a cell pro charger and it doesn't do NiMh, only lipo.

Yes, you should just find a brushed ESC that's Li-Po compatible. Should fly great!

I fly an Easy Star with an Eflite 2700kv motor with 2200 3s lipos, and it will climb verticle until It's out of sight, or cruise around at 15 mph, for half an hour.

I ordered the Easy Star from Tower Hobbies and have a "Wicked 2700" motor coming from Dons RC. I'll be running it on 3s 2200 packs with a 6X4 prop. I know I'll have to mod it to get the outrunner to fit and not sure how that will go. Duct tape perhaps?

I've finished building my Easy Star and have flown it a few times. Wow, I gotta tell ya this thing is a blast to fly. On low throttle it flies nice and gentle. Pull the power all the way off and it seems to glide for forever. But push the throttle stick all the way forward and the brushless outrunner motor makes this baby crank!! It's "Wicked" fast with Don's "Wicked 2700" motor putting out full power on an Outrage 3s 2200mAh pack. With the power pulled back and easy flying I'm getting 30 minute flights maintaining the 20% lipo rule. If your a first time plane flier like I am and looking for something to start out on, I heartily recommend the Multiplex Easy Star.

I flew an Easystar with the original gray plastic frame T-rex BL motor with 3s 2200mah lipo batteries and man was it a blast. It had Rocket ship vertical and gentile slow flying gliding. After a day of heli flying we flew that thing for about an hour on one pack. And it couldnt have been more fun and relaxing. I'll have to ask Tyler (the Compass rep) what prop he has on it.

I'm using a 6X4e prop. I have no idea what that means but it's what most are using on the Easy Star forum over at RCGroups. About a thousand pages of posts on the ES* over there. Nice group too, they helped me with quite a few responses when I posted questions about the plane.

thermals are rising air currents, which can give some extra lift to gliders , and so extend the flight times
