Hi guys .
Just wondered if I could get any tips on a slight canopy vibration I have picked up on my Stratus .
the heli is only around ten tanks old and I'm still running the engine fairly rich , I have balanced the fan and have the fan runout down to 1 thou .
I did notice a bit of a vibe in the vertical tail fin to start with which seems to have eased of a little since I have leaned the engine a few clicks since the first flights .
But on the weekend I have noticed a vibe, most noticable from the left hand side of the canopy, and wondered if this is normal in hover mode .
Seems like as soon as i hit idle up and the head speed goes up the vibe goes . I'm guessing the head speed in hover is around 1500- 1600 as I havent tached it yet .
I have read a few posts on high frequency vibes but I figured this was more of a low frequency one as the canopy has the vibration .
Any tips for things to look at ??
Thanks ,
Jason.

Is this a convertion stratus or a kit? what kind of engine are you running?

Was the canopy originally cut for a tempest or extreme. I had a canopy that was resinating but it was cut for an Extreme. To clear it up it had been cut for the front tank.

Hey Guys , It was a complete kit and I'm using the YS 91st with hatori FS-3D pipe .
Engine seems to be running sweet as even though it is running cold pretty much when checked at the crankcase . Runs much better than my OS 91 ps too :D .
The canopy is the extreme type which came with my kit.
I wasnt real happy with this as i had to cut more material from the muffler side than I wanted to due to the holes already in the canopy on either side . Because of these holes , I had to cut as neatly as I could manage for the muffler but I still ended up with a lot of material removed to make the muffler cut out flow into the canopy :( .
Anyway , I had wondered if this had anything to do with the vibration I have noticed , is this possible ?
Cheers

Mine's cut very close to yours, with a big ass hole in the bottom to get my long reach glow plug igniter and fat fingers into the canopy, and it shakes a little too.
I believe it's just from removing so much material from the bottom and sides....

Yep, my cut up canopy shakes a little also. I don't have any fuel foaming or shakes in the tail fins, so I'm not worried about it. I have a new canopy due the end of January that I hope will fix the shake.

The new manuel on the MA website was a template for cutting the can using the Hatori mufflers.

I have the SB 18 and the cutout worked out perfectly on the Tempest can

Doesn't work so well on the Extremem cans

Thanks for the help guys .
Good to know that it isnt really a problem but just thought I'd check up .
I think I might get hold of a tempest canopy in the future to put on it .
I didnt think it was one of those bad vibes but better to ask than not .
What did ya think of my first go at a canopy paint job ??
It looks ok and is easy to see in the sky so I'm happy , but I want to paint some more now. lol

Cheers,
Jason . :D
