Da da da ( 2001 overture)

So the journey begins, the challenge was to see if the Wren is easy to build so much so a non technical person could do it, and to see if one can fly with speed without the need for a Governer....

that is the challenge and gauntlet that has been thrown down...

Here is the story so far

Christmas came early,

Sara Clause came to my house via Royal mail LOL

The turbine arrived this week,

Yipeeee, it is a bit daunting to see a turbine in bits, but i like the challenge and as Bell keeps saying, when it is flying, you can think
" I BUILT THAT"

it came in very easy labled boxes, i was well excited about it, and i look forward to building and showing that with some help anyone can build a turbine and that it doesnt need a GV to work

I'm envious Matt Jenner, I've put in a bid for a second-hand one :)

By the way, Hello, I'm just over from RR, did not realise there was good turbine activity over here. Had a few problems with logging on since registering but now I'm in.

Welcome Bro, good to see you, it is better here, everyone gets on well or else Auntie Sara makes us stand up with our faces against the wall... and we get lines
" I must be polite and respect my fellow posters comments" :Bang

Bell
I really hope you know what one looks like LOL, or it will be a long weekend. ( turbine that is)

I forgot to ask you old buddy, do you want me to fit the radio gear in ? as i notice we have to take away bottom frames to fit in the conversion, so it seems we will have to take them out again...

Let me knwo what you need me to do in prep

Matt,

Remember, lots of pictures. I'm curious to see how the build goes since the build posts on the other side seem to show a lot of attention has to be paid in the drive train area. With the conversion though it may be easier, I don't know.

Hi Lou

good to hear from you, i will be taking loads of pictures at each stage, Bell will also be doing a video of me building and assembling each stage, and it will culminate in a start up and test run.
In Part 2 which will be at skeeters house i will be videoed setting up the pitch and throttle curves, Bell recons it can be done within 2 tanks, i hope so and i will have a video to prove it, which will blow out the ususal argument "oooh it takes ages to setup a curve"
I have a wren cap and t shirt, although it is large, it may not fit cos i am XX large,, but it will still be fun to do some advertising for Wren on it.... i was gonna get a print done for the back
" WOT NO GOVERNER" :noteworthy:noteworthy:YeaBaby::lolol
BUT I WILL WAIT TILL the next fly in, to do that hee hee

I will be asking Sara if it is ok to take loads of pictures during the assembling stage, and they dont mind me posting them, cos it will show all the parts etc and assembling structure of their turbines...

Hi Matt.
Looks good, mine came just the same except the housing on the pre-built 2nd stage wasn't green. Came as silver which is no big deal. You'll find the kit goes together very easily. I had a couple of problems, but I discovered it was either I misread something, or the picture lied to my eyes :YeaBaby:

Are you using the predator conversion kit? I ordered mine from Wren USA and will be picking it up in a few weeks. As I understand it I should make the installation easy, with the alignment of the drive chain a snap. (or so I'm told).

Cheers,
Deron

Hi Deron

Great to hear from you, and great to see another project well under way,
I will be using the Predator conversion kit, supplied from Wren... so hopefully it will all go together nice and easy...

I am really looking forward to it, with Bell in the back ground it is bound to be light hearted but to the point..

Hi Matt,
Yes, for sure! I'm glad you're doing it first, I've been keeping a close eye on your threads, and I'm really happy Bell is here!

Mine is going to be a little different since I got the carbon frame set, so the metal conversion kit should look interesting. I personally like metal better, but the airframe was used and I got what I could at the time. None the less, I'm like you. I can't wait to hear that turbine wind up!

Nothing like the smell of Jet-A fuel in the morning!

Cheers,
Deron

Hi folks, just to say that the drivetrain line up is really easy, you just errr.....line it up. ie make sure the bottom of the rotating clutch sits 1mm proud of the clutch bell, this way it is easy then to see that it is level front to rear and left to right if that makes sense.
Interesting that your gearbox is not green ddragon, I noticed that Martin Briggs Wren engine fod guard in his Agusta wasn't green either, it was silver, maybe Wren are moving away from their green look, or it's a 'Collectors Edition' or something.:D

Matt your T shirt should read:
'With Wren Your The Governor' :D

Sorry to explode your theory, Bell Bloke, but both the silver gearbox and the silver FOD guard are merely standard ones that hadn't been anodised. Several years ago we sold some un-anodised FOD screens to a company who were selling our engines, and Martin has one of those. Deron's is the first of the new-style gearboxes and we had a deadline to meet on his shipment which didn't give enough time for anodising.

Could Matt's T-shirt please read "With Wren You're the Governor" - note spelling change. As an ex-schoolteacher, one of my jobs is to check all the spelling and grammar in our advertising!

Matt .... governor not governer, last vowel is an O not an E ... sorry but neither of you got the gold star today!

I spent most of my teaching career with the younger children, who don't give nicknames like the older ones do. If there were nicknames I was never aware of them, which is probably a good thing.

a bit of education for you lads

Sara is a form of Sarah which in Hebrew and bible times means

The Hebrew word sarah indicates a woman of high rank, and is sometimes translated as "princess" or goddess, or "high holy one". :noteworthy

ha ha made me laugh

High holy one, :wow2:
