I stripped one of the set screws on the closed tail gearbox.
Are there any options for repairing the gearbox, or do I just buy another?

I don't suppose that JB weld is strong enough for these fine threads...
A helicoil kit is nearly the same price as the closed gearbox itself.
Can I drill and tap another hole? It won't be 180deg from the other set screw... maybe I could drill and tap two new holes?

Yes you can drill and tap two new holes. I did that when I installed one of the boom clamps for the open tail box. I used it with the closed gear box. I put the holes 90 degs away from the current holes in the gear box.
