I would like to use the AUTO function for gain setting on my radio to get gain following the idle up switch.

The manual says: "Connect the gain lead to the AUX2 channel of the receiver, and the black connector to the rudder channel."

I'm using a Spektrum AR6200 RX which don't have an AUX2 channel so I have connected the gyro gain lead to the gear channel on my RX. Is it possible to change a value somewhere so I still can use the AUTO function?

Your gain value will be set in the dual rates menu. You can set the Norm / Stunt 1 / Stunt 2 settings there as well.

Note that since you are using -100 (normal) to 100% (heading hold) value, your usual 0% (normal) to 100% (heading hold) gain settings (if moving from a DX7 or 7 ch DSM receiver) will not be the same.

when you are connected to the gear channel, you can't use the gyro menu in the x9303. I used the travel adjust and the gear switch to provide either rate or heading hold. You could play around with mixing in order to get the equivalent of the 'AUTO' function.

So in my trvl adj menu for gear, I have +39% and -33%.

You can't use the gyro gain menu on an 9303 with a 6xxx Rx. You have to use a 7xxx or higher. Because for some odd reason, only known to JR, you can only connect the gyro gain to Aux 2 and only connect Gov to Gear.

Why couldn't you use the Govenor function to set the gyro in electrics not needing the gyro? It appears that the only difference is the range is 0-125 + and - rather than 0-100. It allows for different gyro (gov) settings per flight mode and uses channel #5.

-Set in your TRVL ADJ, the GEAR values to 100, -100 %.
-INH the gear switch in the setup menu. (Menu where you can change model as well)

-Then use a Prog.mix 1 or 2 function in the LIST menu.
-Master will be the FMod Switch, Slave is GEAR.
-Next set the switches for NRM, ST1, ST2 and more or your liking to ON.
-EXP Off
-Now set per point 1 to 7 (they are corresponding to your Flight mode (aka idle-up) switch) to your desired Gain setting. 0 to 100 is HH and -100 to 0 is Rate mode.
Point 0 has no function. Point 1 is NORM gain setting. Point 2 is Idle up 1 gain setting, etc.

And now the gain settings follow your Flight Mode switch.

You can also use mixers #3 to #6 (two values) for manual and/or automatic gain change:

Set mixing GEAR->GEAR
Pos0 upper = gain value for GEAR switch UP
Pos0 lower = gain value for GEAR switch DOWN. Important! Here You MUST use negative value to reverse a negative sign of TRAVEL-ADJ. Of course if You don't want to change the gyro gain AND gyro mode at the same time.
Example: if You want to have value +20 and +30 (assuming both HeadLock mode) You set:
Pos0 (upper) = +20
Pos0 (lower) = -30
If You similarly make another pair of values for Pos1 and on bottom of screen select Pos1 for ST1, ST2 then You will get two sets of sensitivity: one pair for NOR and one for ST-x flight phase. Then with FlightMode switch You select PAIR of values (switch GEAR) not just single one.
Attention! Also HOLD and GEAR may change behaviour if set to Pos1. I've chosen NRM=Pos0, ST1=Pos1, ST2=Pos1, HLD=Pos0 (shows if enabled), GER=Pos0.

So could a person use the gov menu to set the gain for the gyro if your using a 6 channel receiver so you can set the gain by the flight mode?

I just picked up a 9303, my plan is to simply use the gear channel, and travel adjust to set the gain in my highest flight mode. thats how I had it setup on my DX7. I figure that will free up the mixes for other stuff.

now using the gov function would be interesting as I'm running electric and will use the governor on my CC HV-85 and throttle curves to set headspeed and wont use the built in governor menu anyway.

Ok so I have been thinking about this more, and found a Vid that explains how to use a mix to setup gyro gain for flight modes, it is pretty cool as you can have individual rate and HH for each flight mode if you'd like

This guy called horizon support apparently and they showed him this trick.

Just got my 9503 the other day and could not set up my Logictech 6100T gyro and 6100G tail servo.
Came across this thread and viola, works perfect with the gear channel
Thanks Widower

I have mine set at +20 for HH and -7 for Rate mode using the Gear switch/ travel adjust menu.

Ok guys this is all greek to me, total newbie here.

Just got a X9503 radio with r921 rx, can someone tell me how to setup my gyro.

I would like to use the GEAR switch on the radio to flip between HH and rate mode.
and need to use the 3 position aux2 switch on the radio to control another function.

and the flight mode left hand switch will be used the control the different pitch and throttle curves.

Thanks,

FCA

good question.. I'm still in a daze but what I did (still working on it) is connect the gyro to rudder and gear channels on the R921.. then use the gear travel adjustments for gyro gain (started now at -40% to 40%)
so, I can go between hh and rate mode using the gear switch (I had to reverse the gear switch so that up is hh which means green light on the gp750 gyro)
luckilyon mine in hh mode the servo is going the correct way, otherwise, I would have to reverse the rudder channel
hope this helps.
I followed bobs video in the 450 pro.. so i centered the servo, didn't have to add sub trim.. then centered the slider on the tail.. then programmed the gyros limits..I also set the gyro to large heli.. .

To use the Gear to control the gyro, just make sure you do NOT enable Gyro Gain, that moves the gyro control to the flight mode and requires that you use Aux2.

I see.. ok

shall we use the gear or is there a better way?

It depends. If you want to have different gyro gain for each Flight Mode, use Gyro Sense, but you have to plug the gyro gain line into Aux 2.

apparently you can setup a mix, or you can use the governor feature to specify different gains and tie it to the flight mode, and still use gear (ch5)

Is it possible to switch the gyro gain channel from Aux2 to Gear via firmware update? I think this is a very important functionality, especially when you prefer to use the lighter 6-channel receivers. Does JR listen to customer requests like this?

By gear you mean ch 5?

No.

But very few people actually use the gyro gain menu anyway. Don`t know about the 9503, you'd have to look at the manual.

Just use the Gov menu. If you are running a 6 ch Rx, you aren't running a gov, so just enable gov and set the 3 gains you wants for the 3 flight modes.

Not quite as nice as the Gyro Sense setup, but works fine.

I have a DSX9 mode 2 and following the Youtube /lionelli setup and all the switches are on under SW SELECT but it will not move to ratemode using the gear switch. Menus look identical to me. Some ideas?

Testing on the t-rex 250/gp750 and the light changes from green to red. So this is probably okei.

I just realized that and this is annoying me. I am setting my new 9503. Having some troubles. For example i cannot assign the RUDD D/R switch for throttle cut. I am going crazyyyy.
