How do you shoot a panorama?

With a special camera mount that orients the camera in portrait mode and can pan continuously without getting any part of the helicopter in the shot. Typically the camera is mounted directly underneath the helicopter. A DSLR and fisheye lens are required for easy and consistent results.

I have a new pano mount design that works like a dream and is fully adjustable unlike other mounts currently available. The mount has adjustable pan gearing to get the exact pan speed desired, incorporates a one way bearing in the pan hub so the helicopter does not drive the pan servo on spoolup, and has full 3 axis camera position adjustability to place the entrance pupil of the lens directly in line with the pan rotation axis.

I'm still testing it but hope to show some pics of the unit within a couple weeks.

That covers the hardware... there's an entirely other side of the process which involves stitching and editing. A topic in which I could spend hours writing about....

DJ, will you be making your mount available at some point? also, my father lives in Chandler. maybe the next time i am out that way visiting i could tag along if you happen to be shooting? would be great to talk with you firsthand and see what you do in real time.
