Sanction is good to go for the 1st Annual Bay City Helicopter Classic on March 4-5, 2006.

I would now like to request RSVP of those planning to attend or assist in the contest and clinic. I will start checking out local accommodations and see about setting up group room discounts.

Unfortunately, the state has informed us that overnight parking/camping is prohibited at the flying site. I know this sucks for any of you that planned on bringing an RV overnight.

However, we have the full support of the club for concessions and equipment. This is the same club that now hosts the King Orange Scale Masters Qualifier and one of the largest IMAC contests in FL (excluding the JR Challenge!).

Club Info at:

http://www.baycityflyers.com

In your RSVP, please indicate what class you intend to compete in, if you can volunteer to judge (what classes), what channels you expect to operate on, and if you want to assist in teaching setup in the clinic.

The clinic will be set up on the opposite flight line (we have two perpendicular runways) for those wishing to try out AMA/FAI style flying, and to get some pointers on setup and technique. So, if you have never flown at a contest before, but want to see what it's all about with competing just yet, please come on out!

Please Send your RSVP to:

Erich Freymann
2109 Harcourt Place
Odessa, FL

or Call:

813-926-8552 (leave message as calls are screened)

or Email:

ejfreymann@verizon.net

If you have any suggestions or comments, please offer them. I want this to be a successful and traditional contest for our area. This will be OUR contest.

Sincerely,

Erich

ALCON,

Those wishing to use the field early in the week can enter through the main gate on the south side of HWY 54. If it’s locked, no club members are there yet. Call me at 813-486-0727, Rolando Perez at 813-601-2247, or Charlie Poulton at 813-882-4007 for the gate combo. Tell them who you are and that you need access to the field to practice for the contest. If you arrive and the gate is unlocked, proceed through the gate and re-latch the chain. If you are the last to leave the field, lock the gate back up. I will be there bright and early on Friday to start setting up the field.

There are usually a few people there in the morning, so access shouldn’t be an issue. Helicopters use the opposite runway from the airplanes. There’s a typical freq control board where you use your AMA card and clothespin to reserve your channel.

Lastly, there are some sheet rock boards between the two outhouses, and a dolly in the pump house to move them. Please use these boards to spool up on to preserve our grass. You can land anywhere, but please re-spool on one of these boards. You can start your machines in the pits on the provided tables. Be sure to wipe them off at the end of your flying day. Any questions call me or Charlie.

For the contest, we will protect the grass on the runway with carpet (FIRMLY STAKED DOWN).

Any more questions, post them here, or call me at the above listed number.

As for the contest, registration will be Saturday morning at 8am. Expect a pilot’s meeting at 9am. Expect to fly at least three rounds each class on Saturday. F3C will fly schedule A on Saturday and B on Sunday. We’ll shoot for two rounds on Sunday, but more if time and pilots allow. I don’t want to hold up the travelers any more than we have to.

Practice, practice….we’ll see you soon!

Erich, have you not heard of the Magic Carpet ride.
Better put alot stakes in that rug. I had the worst crash I have ever seen and it wasnt in the air. A rug I autoed onto and then went to spool back up ate my heli.
Swallowed it whole. There were very few parts that were not broke. Now this rug was a very thick shag carpet about 8 feet in diameter. So do think because its big you cant suck it up.

Rodney,
I can assure you with Wayne Mann being at the event. And there is carpet that is being flown from. He will make absolutely sure that the carpet is not going to move no matter what. They may be 10 million spikes in it before it is given approval by Wayne. <G>

This is not a bash against Wayne. Just a piece of carpet in the ready box probably cost Wayne a couple of places at the WC's last August in Spain. All the F3C pilots have a worry about taking off and landing on carpet circles that have been spiked down.

And it was my idea for Rodney to take off from the carpet :arggg: :arggg: NEVER add negative pitch while sitting on loose carpet  :arggg:

Interesting...it was unanimously requested that we put down carpet to prevent sand and dirt from getting on their ships. Actually, we used fiber impregnated concrete board as a pad base, and screwed carpet on top of that. Worked like a charm, and no one lost any tail blades. (at least not on the pad we setup).
