Seen this post from DW a few months back and looks like a great deal.

http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-1013/GL-dsh-WS2632-3500-brushless-moto/Detail

Is it good enough to start some 3D?

From the specs it looks perfectly good. Much more power than the starndard motor.

Very good motor, TONS OF TORQUE.. your clime rate will almost tripple with this motor, i have it i should know.

I would however suggest you get a 35amp speed controller 30 amp gets a tad hot with it and it will fry the stock esky esc almost instantly .

Motor is 350Watts (i doubted this at first) but no more.. Stock esky motor is only 270-280watts (or so they say)

I thought the conclusion was the stock motor can't be much more than 180 W... I see it rated for 20 A max at 80% peak efficiency. That motor is going to make a huge difference, and you can't really go wrong at that price.

Great, I just got a Scopion 55.

Yes correct its rating is 180watts..

Well wouldn't you know it, as soon as I am ready to buy this motor it is discontinued. CNCHELICOPTER says they can no longer get it. I have a Scorpion 55esc should I just bite the bullit and spend twice the money on the motor? I havent cut any corners so far.:...:

now that I have the Scorpion they have it in stock again. :DOH

Aren't there any outrunner options available?

It seems like most people are using inrunners.

Grant_beltcp

They are out runners as far as im aware. All scorpions are also outrunners, the hackers ive seen in 450's are also outrunners. The only inrunners ive seen commonly used in the heli's are the align motors - which are actually outrunners, but in a seperate non spinning case lol!

Well I just ordered a couple days ago now one of these for the new EXI. The GL-WS2632 3500 brushless moto w/fan, for $23.00. Looks to be a good deal so I'll soon fine out how it performs in the heli.

Thanks!

I have the Align 430XL and it looks like an inrunner however the instructions say it is an 6 pole outrunner, even though the outside doesn't move.

I bought one of these to for the 2nd EXI kit I am building (still in the box at the moment).

I measured the shaft at 2.8 - 2.9 mm.

Does anyone know where to get a pinion for this motor?

SnipeD_RNA

comes with a 13t right? should be perfect.

I'll have to check again, seems like mine didn't come with a pinion, that's why I was able to measure the shaft so easily.

Anyway, how about a replacement pinion?

Sounds sort of thin for something that's nominally 3.17 mm... But if it's like the other Sonix outrunners, that's the size you want. Any T-Rex pinion will work, but they don't get much better than this: Rhino Gear Ultra Hardened Steel Pinions - 0.5M 13T (http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=78_513&products_id=6696)

Just got my GL-WS2632 3500 brushless motor w/fan and its HUGE. Almost twice the size of the 4200Kv or 3900Kv motors I have. It came with a 13T pinion with I'm replacing with a 9T pinion to stick in the EXI thats getting put together today.

This thing looks like it should be in a turbofan jet or something... gonna really make the bird sing!! fo sho :banana

Oh wow.. Does this motor hum... Wanted tto hear it on the EXI so hadn't totally completed my setup and sat it on the kitchen floor and spooled to about half way and holy smeg... I think if I'd given it 3/4 stick it would have gone thru the ceiling and roof without even noticing. MORE POWER...

Now I've got this scream'n itch to finish the setup and take this puppy outside for some fun...

In case anyone wanted to know or felt the need to research the history this motor and Heli it was made for. It was made for the GuLang 450 or GL450. Yet another Trex clone. All this competition is giving us a ton of 450 sized choices in every price range. Anyway, here is a picture of a kit in a box. You can surely see the same motor in the box(listed as a 3500KV). The only diff is that this particular motor is purple. What color did you receive dawg? ...I got the pic from http://www.icantoys.com/gl450c-electric-helicopter-p-1058.html

The one I got is a bronzed color which is much more powerful than purple. Its odd that its listed as a 3500Kv motor because when this thing winds up its almost scary. I have several 4200Kv motors and another 3900 and none sound anything like this one.

To bad I don't have any meters cause I'd like to see what its drawing for power and what the RPM's are like. One other thing I noticed right away is that it has a softer start than any of my other motors and will spin easily at lower rpms to before it quits. More magnets I suppose. Almost finished my build so I haven't actually gotten it in the air yet... needed to go back thru and thread lock a couple things and program the Tx. Who knows... I may order another motor if it runs as well in the air as it does on the floor.

I understand that you are talking about the difference in power between the 2 motors, but I couldn't help thinking of the wannabe streetracers who throw yellow decals on their cars to make 'em faster... :)

DumbDawg

Well.... it has been proven that red stickers are fundamentally faster therefore making whatever you apply them to that much faster as well... LOL Thats why most sports cars you see are red... I wonder how many people ACTUALLY believe that...

roftflmao... I boosted my speed today... got a whole new roll of yellow stickers in the mail yesterday so this things really gonna rock... oh ya!!

I am so glad that my HBK2 canopy is yellow - it's so fast that I have to remove it before flight! :happyd

(In reality, the canopy doesn't fit with the 1800mah lipo so I have to mod it...)

I have to leave mine off completely... If I put it on I'd never catch it or even see it go by....Zoom!!!:flygone...
