How much would I be spending on Depron, motor, esc, reciever, etc... for building my own foamie?

I saw a guy walk into my LHS and I talked to him a little, and I said I NEED A FOAMIE!!

So,

Receiver AR6000 -50 dollars
Depron-dunno
motor-probably cheap china 10 dollar one from dealextreme
esc-cheap same from site-20 dolla
servos-cheapie servos from china site-24 dolla! for 4 of em

the final question, whats the best fighter jet kit? Should I go with EDF or Push prop? Can someone give me a link? Thanks

There are copies of yard bird plans all over, that is what I would do.

No EDF, inefficient and for a foamy profile just not needed.

Try these sites they have offer kits and, free downloads, and the planes fly very well.

I can build one from start to flying in about 2.5-3 hrs. for about $8 in materials. you can also find motors and servos at a good price at

I'm building an Espa3d from spadtothebone.com and I ended up with under $5 in the airframe. I got my electronics form unitedhobbies for under $100 including a 72 mhz Rx. I kind of like working with the bluecore fanfold foam, you can get 25 sheets at lowes for about $35.

I wouldn't recommend starting with a jet. The great thing if you build your own is that when you're tired of the trainer, you can strip it, trash the few dollars worth of foam, and build something else with the same electronics. Foam is cheap. (When you do get to the jet, a pusher prop will be much easier install properly, it will be more efficient, and it will give you longer flight times vs. an EDF.)

What is the smallest LiPo you have? If you want to reuse your T-rex packs, which I'm guessing are 3s2200's or thereabouts, you will need a big plane to carry them. If you have smaller packs, say 2s800's from a smaller heli, then you can build a smaller lighter foamie for cheap.

For a first jet, this one is very nice:

And it uses Trex packs (3S 2100) to fly.

I've built two foamies sans kits. 6mm Depron sheets ran about $9 each and both planes got E-Flite 370 motors, E-Flite 20A ESCs and HS-55 servos driven by AR6100 Rxs..

I figure I've got about $200 total in each one.

I got myself a swift II about 8 months ago to try the "plank thing" out......I finally got around to taking it out last weekend....I had a blast........I couldn't even hover a heli the first time but this foam/wing thing seems to be a breeze....

So anyway I was poking around tower hobbies and came across this EDF / XPD-8/Miglet kit....I noticed they must be having some kind of sale as the kit for the XPD-8 that includes the ducted fan and a brushed motor seems to be the same price as the kit without the fan/motor....(29.99)

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMKN1&P=ML

If you were to but the kit without the EDF/Motor combo (also 29.99) you would have to get the EDF/motor seperate and that goes for 32.99

so for that price I figured what the hell.....I'll give it a try..........I just got the kit yesterday...looks like it's going to be loads of fun and a very nice kit for the price,,,,

anyway..if you are looking for a cheap EDF wing/jet, have a look into these...

Just wanted to point out what I think is a good deal ......
