Hi all,

I just got the conversion from Andy Friday and spent the night making it happen. It was cold and rainy Saturday, so today was my first chance to try it out. I was very impressed with my first flight! This is a beautiful and well thought out conversion.

I do have one problem--in my inexperience, I didn't notice that Andy was sending a 10s2p pack for the conversion. I don't have a charger for the 10S pack....Astro 109's only go to 9 cells. I don't want to have to buy another charger just for this pack, so I was hoping to be able to split it into two 5s2p packs or trade it in for same. Anybody out there have any suggestions or experience reworking thunder power gen three packs?

Hi George
the kit was a progression from the boxed raptor, which ran on 10s, all we did was integrate a light weight version of the box into the XeroG frames, to give a massive performance boost, so went with 10s.

Its a fine line with products, to get a happy balance, guy either want 1 pack, convenience, and quicker charge times, or two packs, which take twice as long to charge and generally cost more, we went with what we new from the boxed raptor before.

There is not problem running with split packs, and you can split your packs if you feel happy doing it.

The packs are 2 x 2000mah cells in parallel to give the 4000mAh capacity of the pack. There are 10 of these 2 cell parallel packs all series together to give 10s2p.
The packs are 5 cells long and 4 deep, and can easily be split if needed, as long as you are happy to do this. Each set of 5 cells will have a balancing lead on, just split the cells into the five with the balancing leads connected. Add the charging leads and put heat shrink back on, charge as 5 cell packs or wait for the Thunder Power charger in January.

Okay, I'm splitting open the pack tonight and I'll let you know what I find<G>.

How did you get on LCHelilover ?

Just finished my 600ep today, batteries all charged up and ready to go (hopefully tomorrow if things go to plan )

:-) I too just finished mine today, batteries all charged and ready to go, I also hope to go out tomorrow if not the winter weather is too bad.

Who will be first :-)

It flies

Super smooth and very impressed so far.

I too have just been out flying it, just hover. It was getting dark and the temperature had already dropped rapidly to -11C/12F.

Maybe tomorrow I would have a chance to fly it a little and get a feeling for it, still missing the canopy.

Had another flight today, still sub zero temperatures and freezing fog, so only a short flight.
It feels good and light as expected, but need some positive temperatures before I can test it for real. Also have gearing for a 12S setup, just waiting for a 12S controller and battery.

Have a lot of positive things to say from the kit itself. Think it is a good concept with using R50 parts and just redesign what is missing on a R50 electric conversion.

High CG with high mounted motor and battery, and a very nice kit with a very nice manual made of Realraptors in UK.

OK, I need to test it properly before I can come up with a real review, but I like the kit except two things.

The gearbox have the same weakness as "the box" for the R50 conversion. Only one tiny flimsy 3mm set screw for each gear in the gearbox. That is not good enough. You can not tighten the set screw properly, and how is a 3mm set screw able to handle the 4KW a NEU 1521 motor with a 12S setup can produce?

I think this is an other fast and dirty solution. Think these gears are some standard gears there are delivered with a 3mm set screw, which is not good enough for use in an expensive and potential dangerous RC helicopter.

The other thing I don't like is that the tail belt pulleys are not mechanical locked into position, but only hold by locktite on the axis inside the ball bearings. It might be good enough, but I just don't like it.

Apart from this I like the design of the XeroG very much. Some test flight in better weather conditions will show if I like the flight characteristics as well. Will be surprised if not.

Hi Paul

This is my fault it is not in the manual  you will notice that above the tail belt pulleys, there is a small semi circle of carbon missing, this is so you can change the pulley guide rods for a bolt and nyloc nut, to eleviate this problem.

Having said that, i dont know of any on the 1000 or so glow kits sold that came out.

The gears are not the same that came with the original V2 box, and with all the boxed Raptors out there i dont know of any that have let go as a result of the 3mm grub screw, as for 12s, this remains to be seen

Im sure if 12s setups arrive, it will be looked at

Hi Andy!

Will check these pulleys tomorrow.

As for the 3mm set screws, I already have one auto rotation and a damaged gear due to the 3mm set screw on one of my e-Raptors.
3mm is not good enough for me, and for sure not if I want to use 12S and a NEU 1521 motor.
I will have it modified to 2x4mm set screws if it is possible to drill in this hardened steel gears. I donīt like to flying around just waiting for the next 3mm set screw to fail....Think it is better if XeroG from the beginning take the time it takes to make 2x4mm set screws so I donīt have to mess with these gears ;-).

I will be happy to pay another few dollars for having a perfect kit out of the box.

Have just been out for another flight today, and it flies good, lighter than the e-Raptor, so like how it flies.

10S, a NEU 1515 2Y motor and 80% throttle curve should be enough for most people.

Got a new light weight canopy from http://www.realraptors.co.uk/ today, and again this product was sold with very good support. A 14 page manual full of color pictures about how to assemble this canopy....canīt go wrong.

Again excellent product support from http://www.realraptors.co.uk/

Also got the NEU motor below today, how does it look?, is it too big for a XeroG, too small maybe, or maybe I should mount both motors at the same time for extra power  .

Also got a picture about how to secure the tail pulleys from realraptors, so that should be ok now, just need to upgrade the gearbox set screws to 4mm, and I have a really nice 50 size power machine.

Sweet Dokey!!!!

Is that the Xero-G conversion? Looks like the CG is WAY higher up on that setup than with the Box. How does she roll?

Super nice video Andy!! That is probably the best flying R50-E configuration I have watched. Very nice, and also very nice smooth flying as well.

Still playing around with the setup Baja, but on a basic roll it does track very true.
Aileron tic tocs are very swift aswell
Pic shows battery fitted, so you can see how high up the weight is to help eradicate the pendulum effect during 3D maneuvers

Very simple and straight forward. Thanks for sharing aobut it.

Hey Andy,

Here's my 600EP with an 8 pole Neumotor.

I'm getting a few more watts out of it than the 1515.

Hi Al
looks good  , is that the ORK with your modified fan fitted?

Whats the HS? and gear ratio?
