i just wondered. it looks like a really nice 500 size heli. the head is the same as the 550. micro, or mini servos will work. can you imagine a 500 size heli with a 1500 watt/1100kv motor?

good luck on finding one.. or better yet parts.. the 425 was pretty much a flop.. no one bought it.. the Trex500 came out shortly after the 425 and the 425 was MUCH heavier.. then the MSH came out and the gaui was pretty much forgotten about...

Thats a nice lookin heli. Besides the frames a lot of it should be interchangeable with the 550.

thanks man. i wish i could use full size servos, but there are only provisions for mini, and micro. with the 425mm blades, the mini's should be fine. i just hope it's not too much motor for it. i'm gonna give it a shot, and see what happens.

be interesting to see what you think rotorhead.....and one of the boys just got the sfd with the 50ampesc/1100kv motor combo and with the 3s gaui's he got 12 min flight times at the 1800/2000 headspeed range.and nothing got hot.....

What is the weight compared to TREX500 ? Was thinking to go down in size, maybe this one is ok option.

Nice one Rotorhead, I've always liked the look of those, but with my old eyes I need the bigger size of the 550. ANy chance thatyou can post a few more pics of the frame please ??
I'm interested to know if you have had any luck in tracking down spares - I've never seen anyone selling them for the 425
Cheers,
Mike.

this heli is convertable to a 550. all you need is the longer boom kit, and possibly bigger tail blades. i will get more pics up today. the head and tail are the same as the 550, as well as the bell cranks, and gears. the claimed weight is 1375 grams without batteries. when it is done, i will weigh it. the motor is still a pain to mount. mine came with the metal flybar cage, and head button. i used aluminum blade grips that i had from a quick heli. they have boca ceramic bearings.

your opinion is valued, and needed. the stock blades(black) on top of a K&B 84mm .30 size heli blade. the K&B is 6mm longer, and slightly wider. anyone think i will have a problem with using the K&B's?

Thanks for posting that - really nice flying, I'd much rather be able to do that than the wild 3D that you see more of.
If you do a search on RCG Tom Viper built a 425 at the start of the year and was very complementary about it.

Agree a 425 turned into a 500 would be ideal. Lots of battery room with 550 canopy, carbon frame too boot.

well, i ran into my first road block on this build. the 5245mg servos are not the way to go on this heli. there is way too much lateral movement. i am going to make these work, but i have to fabricate some plates to mount them. futaba 9650's would fit perfect. i didn't want to pay for the metal gear sets on them, plus, they were more expensive. so again, DO NOT use 5245mg's.
here is a pic of the problem. not sure what i'm going to do yet, i just got them today.

well, that took me all of a half hour to find the solution. i used these screw caps and ground down a flat on them. thanks again to quick world wide...:Bang

ya, me too buzz. my own fault for not planning better:arggg:. btw, the 9257 will fit perfectly, as it is the same length as the 9650's.

Fantastic vid... very nice build. AND very nice flying!!
I overlooked the 425 completely because I did not realise the frame was different (and lighter).. my bad. Assumed it was a 550 frame.
Can you post your exact build.. and packs / headspeed etc.
Thanks
