View Full Version : New Spctra G - Advice needed
I bought a Spectra G and live in South Africa - (altitude 5500 ft above sea level; middle of summer). When I required the undermentioned at dealers I get all sort of answers; I need to know the following:
1. What JR Servos i.e. tail, gyro elevator etc. do I need for the Spectra G?
2. What is the minimum type of Gyro and best type of Gyro required?
3. Do I need a Governor and if so what type?
I intend to do only mild flying i.e. lazy 8, left to right, maybe a roll or so at max. I intend to attach a camera/ video.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I can't comment on JR gyro/servo combinations, I use Futaba with my JR radio.
Futaba 401, 601, or 611 combos will plug into JR gear and are the 'premier' gyros on the market. Let your budget dictate, all will work acceptably well, the 611 is the best of the three.
Servos of at least 90 oz/in of torque is common, the Futaba 9252 is the popular choice.
The governor for your gasser is the stator gator. This is an optional piece, you can fly your throttle curves just fine. The governors help maintain headspeed for aerobatics.
JR recievers will accept Futaba peripherals, just align the darkest wire (brown and Black) and plug in. Some Futaba servos will still have the "j" tab on the side of the connector, trim it off for JR use.

Actually the Stator Gator is a sensor that plugs into a governor and is used to interface the signal (frequency) to the governor. I have used the GV-1 governor and it works good but needs some tweaking to get it OK.
The CSM RevLock 10 (for Gas) is the governor of choice and works flawlessly.
For Gyros; many work work well. The GY-601 works best. I have not used a 611. The 550T gyro works great using a 8700G servo or a 9254 servo. The GY-401 is marginal and does not work well with a 9253, but works OK with the 9254.
