Hello folks,

I am seeking for more information on the Walkera 38 tandem rotor helicopter:

Is this helicopter any good? Has anyone flown one?
They now advertise it for $179.99 with the 2.4GHz radio and metal upgrades on the rotor head.

Any comments, are welcome. Thanks

Hermann , Glad someone started a thread on this helicopter! I have watched a couple of Youtube videos of them and was impressed. I personally don't have one but was thinking about getting one and also want to find out the pro's and con's for it.

i have one and it is pretty good. it is a little slugish and does creat a lot of rotor wash so you do need a large space to fly it in. Other than that it is a good inexpensive intro to tandem rc s.

Does it handle wind and forward movement any better than most coaxs?

I'd buy it if it wasn't coax. I'm disappointed that the only real option for anyone wanting a tandem rotor model has only really a single option. I also disagree with the poster who is quick to judge the electronics on walkeras. I know they've had a bad track record but from my experience with the 4#3b they've worked things out pretty well

Well, I bought a Walkera 38 and there's enough adjustments in the servo arms and mixer to provide a lot control surface movement. Unfortuantely, that translates into a lot of blade strikes and not a lot of movement. It still has more authority than the average coax and enough weight to handle some headwind. Side winds can be touchy for take off and landing. It tips easy and breaks blades. Really, if somebody made some decent after-market blades for this thing, it would be pretty cool.

It's not real hard to fly this thing well enough to avoid crashes or damage. But it's extremely difficult to fly it well, especially indoors. It drops altitude very easily and moves a lot of air, more than my Trex 450 clone. It's like flying a basketball.

Despite it's shortcomings, I'd recommend it. It's different and challenging and looks cool gliding through the air. Except for breaking blades easily and needing some heat sinks on the motors, and some additional body bracing, it's basically trouble-free.

Airy have made some harder blades for Walkera 53 . Perhaps they are a little longer .Worth a look rchelicoptershop .

I have one my only problem with it is I cant find rotors for it. That and if you hover for very long it starts to shake real bad, I have not figured out why yet.
