Anyone see a Hummingbird CP in the air yet? I bought one and am waiting for my rx to arrive. Any first impressions from those who are further along than I?

I have a Hummingbird CP. Its alot better then the fixed pitch one. You will like it!

Did you find it difficult to get off the ground with the stock battery? (the 7-cell birdseed)

I just got mine into the air yesterday. It took a 3-cell lipo to give it snappy performance. My tail motor died after one minute of use. Replaced it with a DD suitable motor and prop. Except for my RX, all my other parts are Century stock. Including the HB v.II gyro and hummingboard.

It seems like it probably needs an HH gyro for agressive climbing maneuvers. Adding pitch agressively moves the tail quite a bit.

Hey what type of tail motor did you do for the direct drive setup you put on there? I have a CP hummingbird and wanted to do that with mine also. I havne't gotten it in the air just yet, broke a component of the rotorhead just trying to adjust it. Also who makes a heading hold gyro small enough for that heli? I"m not sure if a Futaba 401 gyro would be too heavy for that model.

helihobby.com sells a lightened CSM heading hold gyro (6 grams) for $90. I'm still using the century stock gyro, but this is my next thought at an upgrade.

The DD motor is one that fits the same mount, however it is about twice as long. You can get this motor for cheap by getting the oral-B $5 electric toothbrush. Your LHS will have them too. Add a cap and a GWS 3x3 (3030) prop. One thing to be aware of, When soldering to this motor, be quick. Too long and you will melt the plastic and distort the location of the brushes. I ruin every other motor by not being fast enough.

Let me guess, the ball broke off the mixing arm?

My HB CP is totally upgraded now. Brushless, sepatates, 3-cell lipo, DD tail, aluminum head block, auto-rotate gear, FP blade grips, etc. It still isn't all that great. I disagree with James. I think the HB v.II is a better flyer than the HB CP.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about going brushless with mine considering I have a jeti master series 18 amp controller that's not being used. I've looked at the great planes park 370 motor or a himax 2015 type motor. I'll have to check out that gyro you mentioned. As for the rotor head that's exactly what happened. What a pain that was, considering the LHS had to order the parts. I finally got them in today, but still can't fly because my eclipse 7 decided to start acting funny(throttle channel is backwards, regardless of servo reversing position), so I got it sent to get repaired, or just simply get the mode changed back to 2. I have a futaba 7CHF radio on order for my hawk sport, so I'll probably use that one for the HB CP also. Seems like a much better radio.
