Seems Flybarless are the way of the future, and hopefully the close future. I have been trying to read up on the various systems and prices, but when will system like the probar be available?
Here in norway a Mikado V-bar system is about 50% more than a Futaba 611 Gyro, so I have no doubth what I will get for my Trex600 if my current 611 gyro should bit the dust. Im currently runing a GY401 gyro on my Trex500 and im not really happy with the tail. Not a huge problem, but compared to the tail on my 600 it's junk... I have been thinking about getting a Spartan DY760, but these are damn hard to come by at this time. So question is, will there be a revolution in flybarless systems anytime soon, and would this maybe be the way to go?
I like the fact that Mikado have a very neat and clean setup with all gyro's included the tail gyro in one small box, but I dont know to much about other systems. What systems are worth looking into for a Flybarless viring?

Does a virtual flybar system replace the tail gyro? I didn't realize that.

Does a virtual flybar system replace the tail gyro? I didn't realize that. The Mikado and AC3 models have a tail gyro built in. The Skookum SK360 does not. The SK360 is made for folks who already have their own tail gyro. That is why it is about 1/2 the price of the German types.

Part of what I like about the mikado system is the clean neat configuration of it. I would prefer a system with included tail gyro, you just have to deal with one software for everything etc.

In the states now the Vbar is not much more than a 611, although you still need to buy a tail gyro so add that to the cost.

No you don't have to buy a tail gyro with the V Bar.

And now the SK-360 is only 279.95.

I am sure Big Fil (http://www.helifreak.com/member.php?u=25996) ment a rudder servo ;)

I think what Big Fil meant to say is that you have to ad a tail servo?
Anyway. I'm a bit inbetween now...Vbar or sk360..Dont know what to choose. I'm running a spartan gyro on my 600 now. Verry happy with it. So I could ad the sk360 to that setup. From the other hand. Vbar is a complete solution and In that way I can move the spartan to my trex450 replacing the gy401....
Who can convince me what to do ;)

Soon there will be more options, including what is likely to be an inexpensive 3-axis solution from GAUI: http://www.infinity-hobby.com/main/article_info.php?articles_id=108 The attachment shows one mounted on a Trex450.

Ahh, makes sense.

I didnt realise the Gaui unit was 3 Axis!!
Cool.!l The predicted price of $200USD makes it even more atractive!!
And we aretoldits only a couple of weeks away!!
Great stuff

Given the cost of sensors and markup, to meet $200 for a 3-axis, it would have to be based on poor quality piezo sensors, such as you'd find in the eflite tail gyros. Think $200/3 = the equiv price point for a tail gyro.

Good description, 200/3 ... but should count the software research and development in it, that should take up a large portion of the price, not just a gyo, three gyros and two of them are somehow interactive

This GU-365 availability is a very good news for our Hurricanes 550.
But the GU-365 is only the electronic part !? I guess that we need to add the GAUI 425-550 Size Flybarless Rotor Head (# 204682 ) at 99$ ? Is it all that we need (GU-365 + 99$ Rotor head) to complete the conversion ? Are there other better flybar-less rotor head on the market for the Hurricane 550 ?
Anyway, the tests will be very interesting to answers those 2 questions:
- Does the system provide better efficiency that translate into increased flying time ?
- Can the system be programmes/tuned to increase stability in order to provide a "safer" flight for beginers/NON-good pilots ?
Looking forward hearing the first real test results http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

you shouldn't HAVE to use the Gaui head...and if you look at it.. it's the standard CNC head and yoke with the mixing arms removed and longer standoff balls in place.. the Trex500 balls should work... and the follower/washout arm is available separate too I believe..

The answers are yes and yes. The system is actually two axis HH gyro, so it can correct the heli under wind ...

Wonder how it's going to cope on a bigger heli? Although the cyclic gyros probably don't need to be as fast or accurate as the tail gyro.

If they are really clever they could have used an SMM sensor for the rudder axis and piezo for the cyclic axes, hence keeping the cost down but the performance up where it is needed most. However I suspect it is indeed piezo all around. Looking forward to hearing flight reports.

it's a 3 axis system.. a 2 axis would require a separate tail gyro...
