Who always glues the blade roots directly to the wood on their wood blades?

I always have when I was running woodies. I always followed the directions from the manual about the subject. Just one less thing to worry about when flying. I used two part epoxy for them. Never had any issues.

I do! I use a good slow-cure epoxy, and I use a soldering iron to trim away the covering material so there's no scoring of the wood like you get when using a razor blade. The final step I take is to soak the exposed root end of the blade with thin CA to harden and fuel-proof it.

I put the blade root in a vise and apply a little even pressure, then I flood it with thin CA both sides. Rebalance. Neve had a separation.

The only wood blades I have used of late, is the ones from Century that already come with the blade covering (that would be under the grips) already trimmed away. I have always used epoxy and a vise.
Chris - I do like the idea of further strengthening by soaking with thin cyanoacrylate.
first.

Are you guys satisfied with the wood blades? I've always liked the fiber align blades on my little rex. They are fiberglass I guess and not carbons but they seem to perform alot better. I'm just moving up to a hawk hence the interest.

The stock woodies fly just fine! If you do want to try some non-wood blades on your Hawk, I'm pretty happy with my HeliMax 570mm carbon blades, and I've also flown mine with SAB 550 fiberglass blades. Both are around $50 per set. I believe Mavrikk brand has some in the same price range.

You will find the woodies provided with the Hawk Pro to be some of the best woodies I have ever flown. I found them to be better then some C/F blades I have used in the past. Just be sure to assemble them properly (glue the plastic lade roots directly to the wood with epoxy) and they will go forever at 1850 and do some pretty hard 3D.
Jim,
I found the Heli-Max to be a finse"sport" blade, but loaded the OS37 far too much in hard aerobatics. The SAB 550's were a good overall blade that autoed very well. My favorite all around 550mm inexpensive composite blades, by far, are the FunKey CNF5533's and my all out favorites for everything right on to extreme 3D are the Rotor Tech CN266166's.
