Hirobo Freya FG canopy

Anybody have one they could weigh?

Anyone have an Arizona Heli Freya canopy?

My x-spec is nose heavy... i'm looking at ways to get the balance in check without adding weight.

I can't help you with the canopy weights but some things that may help are:

carbon tail boom
remove the horizontal fin
carbon fiber vertical fin
carbon xtreme battery tray to move the battery out further
large rx battery

What battery pack are you using? Maybe switching to a smaller pack would give you a better CG since you are nose heavy.

smaller battery
shaft drive tail
gyro on the rear
reverse the landing gear to shift them back
stock tail fins
if using a gv1 switch to a lighter govenor tj pro, revmax, revlock

yep, I think most Freya's and Sceadu's end up tail heavy as opposed to nose heavy in my case... :arggg:

Even with a full load of fuel (Freya Evo 600cc tank), it's still slightly nose heavy.

The batt is on the smallish side at 1950 mAh, based on 4/5 'A' cells. I got the pack a little further back by suspending it from the bottom of the radio tray.

I like the landing gear and TJ Pro idea... :cool:

The Freya canopy is pretty heavy. My scale has a 200g capacity... so there's at least 7oz. I suspect the stocker may check in at 13~14oz. I like the stock canopy, although I might find it worthwhile to spend $180 if I can drop 5oz with either the Hirobo or AZ Heli FG canopy.

That is probably the best front tail servo setup I have seen on a freya.
Nice job on that. Any more pics of the servo mounting? Spill the beans man! We want details. :glasses2:

That is my only complaint about my Evo50. I really dispise rear mounted tailservos, when the tailboom preaks in a crash, you loose a 150$ servo instead of a $3 pushrod.

Also this makes me angry, as I will be spending the rest of the day in the cold garage engineering. :arggg: :mrgreen:

Is that servo mount a custom made one? If so you are pretty handy. :mrgreen:

Here are the details:

The fwd pushrod is MA style... like what's found on an Fury, etc.

I fabricate the CF servo mount. It's made from 5 layers of CF cloth and aerospace epoxy resin. Three m3x5 countersunk bolts hold the CF mount to the Freya frame which is drilled and tapped. Two bolts hold the mount on the Sceadu.

The gold clamp on the Sceadu TB is from a Mr. Carbon rear T/R mount set. I found out the hard way that it was a T/R mount for a Raptor. Since the Raptor TB is larger in diam, I made a spacer from a section of a spent Sceadu TB. On the Freya, I cut down the stock servo mount.

The T/R bellcrank on the Sceadu is a Hirobo EX elevator x-type lever (from an Eagle I think). You could also use the Sceadu SD-G x-type lever. The Freya has a stock Sceadu Evo elevator x-type lever on it.

I'd offer to make up some CF servo mounts, if there's enough interest. Work keeps me busy... so it may take a while to make them. I have 5 of the gold Mr. Carbon clamps. Have a Hirobo EX clamp for the 8 sided Freya TB as well.

you must be crashing wrong. I have crashed the proper way many many times and never killed a tail mounted servo. :lol:

I have a 2700G with the wires ripped out, and the circuitboard cracked. A couple other servos with cracked cases, etc and so forth. Maybe I should pitch my junk, but I paid too much for it not to make a signifigant contribution to the archaeological comunity in 1000 years.

Anyway, I think you must not be crashing proper, cause I can get the tailboom to land (servo included) about 50 feet from the rest of the heli. :twisted:
