View Full Version : Another day, another crash
I think I'm about done with this heli for the time being. Unfortunately, being out of work, I just can't afford to replace 12 dollar + shipping blades every day. Finally got the thing flying today, was flying decently, I did a forward flip, a backward flip, a roll, tail is still jumpy a bit but not too bad, so I start flying sidein in front of me, start to loop around to nose in and the thing just goes nuts into the ground.
Its like Gaui has put a curse on me, whats worse is it used to just be spindle screws but the crashes are getting worse and worse, this one landed on crash and was the worse yet, I've landed in a tree, landed on cement a couple of times, one time inverted 20 feet up and this crash by far took out the most stuff.
I lost a tail blade grip, main blades, spindle screws, and I found out I also managed to damage the feathering shaft. Fun fun popping that out again. Its almost back together, but i'm on my last blades and i feel this thing is going to be going away till I see what else is out there in the 200 size market.
I also stripped the elevator servo. Can someone tell me why the elevator servo seems to go more than the other 2 servos? I keep breaking that servo. I'm not sure if that caused the crash or if it broke on impact, but what I was doing was not exactly complicated.
To be fair, the heli started as an ep100 so I know I need to upgrade the tail still, but it all adds up to money I don't have for this cursed thing :)
But I've only broken like 2 mixing arms since getting the thing and one time was when it was still the ep100 and I tried to do a flip which of course the ep100 couldn't do so I guess you can only say one broken mixing arm.
Anyway, thanks for listening to me rant.

you have to pay to play, anyway I wish I could d flips! if it is getting expensive just tame it down and do basic flying

I wish it was that simple, its just like the thing tries to have issues all the time, it was fine through all the tougher maneuvers and then just decided to go crazy. I will give it one more try, then I'm putting it on vacation for a bit.

Maybe you mistakenly ordered the special Voodoo model.

I think I just need to start fresh. I mean between bb306 servos going out on what seems like their own and my tail having issues, I probably just need to start from scratch. I like the micro heli tail, but its hard to justify throwing more money into the heli at this tiem. I'll see how it flys again this week.

Sorry for your crash man. I flew one of mine into the side of the house last week. It hit hard enough that it shattered the vinyl siding. Damage to the heli? Tail shaft, pitch slider belcrank, main grips, flybar, and boom. Mixing arms survived! They were the Microheli arms too.

What do you mean go crazy? Are you using AR6100? There is a known issue I found out about recently where a 'full throw' signal is sent to the elevator servo randomly - resulting in a lot of nose dive crashes when I was just trying to hover. I put a AR6200 on and problem solved. I'm also using BB306 on the swash.

Also use the plastic blades they really take a beating, I easily destroyed the wooden blades in a single crash.

yea, ar6100.

Thats interesting, Im looking into the AR6200 / AR6100 stuff for a different project (details as and when ;)) But Im coming to the conclusion that they are actually the same RX (PCB is the same), after I 'scope one tomorrow Ill have a better idea, but I suspect they run the same firmware, it would make manufacturing easier...

Well I had my first flight today after being away for 3 months. I set her up for 5-6 hours and when she flew it was like old times, solid solid solid. Then the wind cranked up and sent her floating to the right and a tree obscured my vision. On top of that the gaui was getting close to a civilian talking on a cell phone and not paying attention. So I cut the throttle and hoped for the best. One of the wood blades broke off and my nemesis, the feathering shaft, is now bent. I have gone through so many feathering shafts and every time I want to pull my hair out because there is just no easy way to get that gosh dang pinon out of the gosh dang yoke!! Maybe I can accomplish the maintenece before dark and head out again today.

i would think about a new yoke if it's a constant problem.

I've replaced the yoke before but that doesn't prevent the feathering shaft from bending. Buying a new yoke every time the feathering shaft bends is a way expensive alternative.
update: made some adjustments. pitch measures out ok, time for another flight. GO TIME!!!

then stop nose diving inverted into the dirt. and stay away from trees:)

Yeah I'll try and stay away from that :P shouldn't be too hard.
So I flew 5 packs and was pretty satisfied. I know what I want to learn on the sim now.
I am def done with the hex screws to attach the blade grips to the yoke. I'd much rather the blade grip screws bend then the feathering shaft.
still <3 my gaui.

i got a bag of 100 of them from grainger for 4 bucks. blade grip screws just like gaui's.
I still wanna know if I even need the pin, the 450 trex doesn't need a pin.

This issue was addressed by Spektrum ages ago. V1.6 receivers are ok

I bought an AR6100 second hand and it has the issue so someone else could be in the same situation.

The moral there is .. Don't buy second hand radio gear. Your expensive model is surely worth the extra for new gear

Crap, mine is 1.2 . Spektrum has offered to take it back and exchange it with a 1.6 but then I will be without a receiver and grounded for the entire turnaround time. So, I guess i'll wing it :dontknow

Pretty easily, it says V1.2 on the top of the 6100e.
