Well I went ahead and just ordered a Freya Evo 90. I have been into heli's before but it's been awhile and I never got past the hover back then. I have been learning on a Blade CP, got a solid hover down so far. I'm pretty excited about the new Freya, can't wait til it gets here so I can start building it. Haven't ordered the engine or radio yet, soon. Anyway, just thought I would chime in about my new purchase as I'm excited and can't wait to see this beast!

Welcome back to the hobby and congratulations. You have chosen a very good heli to get into nitro heli's with. The Freya's (Hirobo line) are very stable and dependable heli's.

May I suggest a dependable and easy to tune YS61ST engine to start with. It's easy on fuel and has plenty of power to get you doing all the basic maneuvers and you won't be fiddling with the tuning all the time once you have your first gallon thru it. ;)

I prefer Futaba transmitters and Hitech servos because of the dependability I have had with them. A 7 to 9 channel radio will have all the bells and whistles needed for this heli and any future heli you might purchase.

Even though you have some good skills with the Blade CP, please find someone (Or Funfly event) within a few hours to give you a hand with the little things in heli tuning that will keep your heli in one piece for more than the first flight.

There are a lot of heli guys in your neck of the country so put feelers out thru the Pilot Locater web site. (Link is on the home page of Helifreak)

NO question is too dumb if it saves you a few hundred dollars in repairs so always feel free to ask at this site with out getting your balls busted. :D

USS DALLAS is the 13th LOS ANGELES class nuclear powered attack submarine. The boat plays a very prominent part in Tom Clancy’s "Hunt for Red October".

The freya is a good machine. I started learning some 3-d with it. Parts are easy to come by to.

Thank you all for your replies. A couple of years ago I built a Hirobo GPH 346, went together very well, that's one reason I decided to go with Hirobo again. Never did fly the GPH, got transfered out of state and just sold it. :( I think I'm going to go with the JR 9303 radio as I'm a JR fan. Futaba makes excellent radios, just love the feel of the JR's but I am going to check out those HiTech servos you mention. Any recommendations for a .90 class bird? As for the engine I haven't decided yet, OS or YS. Sure wouldn't mind that new OS, sounds like a nice engine. I didn't realize that a .61 would carry this bird but I am also a fan of displacement so will probably go with a .91(as you can probably tell I'm a "little hard headed"). I know the .91 is gonna suck fuel down like a cheap cigar but I'm not to concerned about that, should be ok. Though I may be eating my words later on!! ha ha.

As for getting it set up, I'm going to start my search tonight. I actually knew Curtis Youngblood when he was in college back in the day(he was who taught me how to hover), might look him up see how he's doing and have him take a look at her and make sure I have it all set up right. I know he's out near College Station now, or somewhere near there anyway.

Yeah, SSN 700 is the U.S.S. Dallas. I was in the Submarine force many moons ago. Sure miss riding those boats. Again, thanks for all your replies!

Sure miss riding those boats.
One of the Freaks on here still does ride um out of Jacksonville, FL.

9303 is a dang nice radio. Hitec makes some Titanium geared servos now that should last and not loosen up like regular metal. I use the carbonite geared servos as of now but I don't slam my heli's in the air much, just on the ground!  Check out www.servocity.com

YS91's here as I'll be damn if I'm gonna pay another $250 to 400 to get an OS running right.

Curtis might be able to help you, a little, Just don't try to keep up with him or it'll hurt like the dog in my avatar! :noteworthy
