I went for it and ordered a new Freya Evo last week. It should be here tommorow(24th). I have been into the hobby but it was many years ago(CY was in college here in Austin and taught me how to fly, or should I say hover). All I ever learned to do was hover then moved away. I now have a Blade CP and have been working away on it and I have it down to a solid tail in hover, and pretty good at the 45 degree "sideways hover" facing either way. I know the Freya's a helluva leap for a noob but that's just how I am, do it big or go home I guess.
I am torn between the new OS .91 or the YS .91. Any advice on which engine? Any other tips/advice you guys want to offer on the Freya? By the way, how is it pronounced? Is it Free-ya? Thanks for any and all help!
John
When you get an OS, be ready to put a new crank bearing in it, probably when the engine is still new. OS will not warranty that engine, although they would be more than happy to cahrge you full price for a rebuilt engine. (A bit sour on OS since I have been through the "Deep stuff" with them) If you get a YS, you beat 3000 others to the front of the line, and there will be a possibility if you ever need parts, they may be hard to find.
Freyas are good machines with a solid background. They are the plastic incarnation of the eagle series which used to be in the top of the world championships regularly. Ricks helis (click the advertisement) has a good write up on freya assembly tips. It seems that parts are really quite fair in price, compared to a Vigor for example.
You will probably get spoiled starting with a 90 size ship. Lots of power and the larger size makes them much smoother. If you were to get a 30 size ship later, it would feel very skittish, since it is lighter.
Anyway, have fun with your new machine.

The Evo will fly right of the bench with very little fuss
My YS 91`s with a Hatori SB-16 Muffler are very user friendly.
Frey like Pray and Ya like Up without the (p)

go with the ys. i think ricks still has one. also get a 611 to go on it to. my first real 3d capable machine was a freya. its a real smooth machine. the only upgrades to put on it if the evo does not have it already would be the 3rd bearing block on the mainshaft and the 3rd bearing assembly for the tail beld drive. also during the build get rid of those philips head cap screws and put regular socket head cap screws in its place. Just remember that I dont know if the evo has these already but they are cheap upgrades if it does not, especially the tail bearing block.

That's funny, I just had my O.S. 91 in for repair where they replaced all the bearings, piston ring, and sleeve. It was all covered under the warranty too.... ?
The point being that I bought a new engine, and it had bad bearings. I wanted the whole engine warrantied, not have it rebuilt. I have a really bad feeling about paying new price for a rebuilt engine. If it is bad while still NIP, they should make it right, not just rebuild it. If I wanted a rebuilt engine I would have ebayed one and rebuilt one myself for 1/2 the price.
As it stands, they never did make it right, nor did the place that sold the engine to me. So I bought new bearings (much better quality, and cheaper than the shipping to send it back to them) and rebuilt it myself. Therefore, I will never buy a new OS engine again. Probably avoid buying anything that is supported by GP/Hobby Services, since I have never had anything but bad service from them, for about 20 years now.

I got tired of frames and everything else cracking on my Heli`s.
I switched to YS 3 years ago and have never looked back.
