View Full Version : SJM 180 (215) with 3 axis AC-3X
Hi Guys,
I couldn't resist the urge to pick up one of these tinny SJM's. In order to save weight and to use my "Über-gyro" AC-3X I decided to put them together and see what happens.
Here's the finished product and I will be looking to maiden the little critter later tonight.
I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty of the SJM until I fly it for a bit. Yeah, she's a porker but I'll save my judgment until I get some stick time.
It will be nice to compare it to the Rex 250 when it comes out.

I like the SJM stuff as they realy think outside the box
However im not sure the h180 is all that great due to the fact that even in the event of a minor accident and you bend the boom you have to completely stri down the heli to replace it, as the boom forms a main part of the airframe.
please correct me if i am wrong
I would love to have one of those AC3X gyros though
Let us know how she gets on

any update? video? )
Hi,
She's grounded until I get a few replacement parts. One of the ball links popped off mid flight and I damaged the main blades and hub.
Pretty tough little bugger though.
I should get more flight reports in a few days.

Going flybarless with my SJM180.. How did you set-up your head? Is it really as simple as it looks? Or am I missing something?
Thank you..
Very simple. I used two ballbearings, a washer and a longer screw to bring the linkage rods out to the center of the main hub. By using the ballbearings you don't need a swash driver b/c the ballbearings hold or drive the swash at the same time. Maybe I'll add a close up pic if I get a chance.
