I am getting Stratus soon, been flying Extremes for a while with YS and Hatori setup. Just wonders, if I am going to put OS in this one. Would I get more punch out of OS? Please educate me.

Are you talking about the stratus. If you are going to modify the engine with OMI then the answer is YES.

Depends on the OS you are getting. I used to fly YS and switched to OS a few months ago. In my personal opinion OS engines have more mid range power, they feel like they have a lot more torque than YS. However, you might or might not be able to tell the difference based on your flying style. A good friend of mine from a local heli club has been flying helis for over 10 years, he is a very smooth 3D pilot and since all his maneuvers are so smooth and he doesn't change directions drastically, he doesn't appreciate or care about the difference in power, he flies YS and likes it very much.

Now, as far as OS 91 motors are concerned:

(1) The stock C-Spec (gold head) needs to be sent to OMI (James O'Neals) for some mods. Otherwise, it doesn't do much.

(2) The stock C-Spec PS has plenty of power right out of the box. Some people like it, some people hate it. I have experience with two of them, they both came out of the box running without issue and with plenty of power without the need for mods.

(3) The new OS 91 SZ is a great engine, it has also plenty of power out of the box, more than number 2 above and close to number 1 above modified. You need to send it to OMI as well to put a regulator in it so you can run it without exhaust pressure. It is very consistent and reliable, I am currently running one of these engines in a Stratus. I have heard of some people running it in stock form with muffler pressure and they say it is reliable and consistent that way too.

Good luck.

I just finished two Stratus's to replace my Fury's. One I put a new SZH in, and the second I put a strong YS-91. It's a night and day difference in power, the SZH has way more power. It's like going from a Mustan 5.0 to a C5....

I will try SZH. How much is it for OMI modify the carb with a Cline regulator regulator?

Thanks,

I think James at OMI will charge somewhere around $80.00 for the regulator. James does not modify the bore on that carb as it is already at 10.6.

You can buy the engine from RC Mushroom in Hong Kong for $245.00:

I would buy it here in the USA if I were you X because if you need to send it back for anything they stand behind them good. I know Alan had some trouble with his new OS 70 recently and they replaced it very quickly with no hassle. I know others who have had OS warranty work done and they would have been in a lot different situation had they bought overseas with extra shipping expense and time to get it handled.

I agree with that Will. I know Wayne Hillenbrand just got a couple of SZ's from overseas. One of them he received the crank shaft was not running true. It was out .0025. That is two much to attempt to dial indicate a fan and try to get in under .002. So he had to box the engine up and send it back to where he purchased it. He will let us know how the service goes. But I would think it will probably be at least a couple of weeks before he knows anything.

I also agree with you guys. However, it all depends on how willing you are to take a chance to save a little money. I bought 2 engines from mushroom.com about a month ago, one for Marvin Dericho (a good friend) and one for myself. Both turned out to be excellent motors with no issue and I had very good support from rcmushroom. However, I agree with the fact that if something goes wrong with the motor, it might be a lot more difficult to get warranty work performed or arranged.
