Hello,
This is my third post, first was in the T-Rex forum. I am a proud owner of an SE that I received from my wife for Christmas (she is already used to my hobbie addiction). These heli's are great fun. I have taken 3 lessons so far and picked up a sim to help relieve my pocketbook from the strain :) I have to say that the T-Rex is a touchy little bugger compared to the Raptor 50 I have used in lessons. I picked up a lot of tips from the site before I joined and wanted to say thanks. See you around.

Stick some collars (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXD832) on the flybar and it will slow the twitch beast down a bit.

Welcome1

It would really be easier to add some expo to the cyclic. :D this way you don't have to take anything apart. It's like cutting down the throw but it's still there when you need it. This will soften up the controls :)

I have thought about the expo. The main problem I have in a hover is not keeping the heli in one place it is keeping it at a steady height. It seems no mater how small the adjustment I make I can not keep it from rising or falling. I have thought about removing or modifying the toothed part on the throttle stick. I just cannot seem to get the stick in the right position. I do not seem to have that problem on the Raptor 50 I have flown. Maybe it is the setup?

Are you using an airplane radio if so you may want to remove the detent spring from the throttle stick as you mentioned.
You can also try changing the hover percentages at the point on the stick where you hold it to hover. Do you hover at mid stick or at 5/8 to 3/4 stick? What radio are using? Most radios have a 5 point pitch curve. If you hover at above mid stick you can set the curve percentages (point 3 and 4) to a softer valve by bringing the numbers closer together. (Point 3 and 4) lets say point 3 is set to 50% and point 4 is set to 75% it will be a little softer you change point 4 to say 65% instead of 75%.
You can also try changing points 2 and 3. It all depends on where your stick is when you hover.

My radio is a Spektrum DX6. Not really a high end radio but it does have a few options and I can turn it on and fly anywhere without worrying about freq. The guy at the LHS sold my wife that radio with the heli because I like my Nomadio 2.4ghz radio so much. Hover is around 5/8 stick. If I recall this radio has a 4 point pitch curve I will check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just wait till you want to fly a Gasser :D
I am sure you can get rid of the "notches" by opening the Radio and turning the "notch spring" over.
You can call me at 540-535-7254 8am- 11pm EST and I will try to help you.

I did turn the spring over and it helps a lot I can get the heli to hover within a few inches of the ground now. Looks like the radio only has a 3 point pitch curve so not much in the way of adjusting it. I am still having problems with the tail holding so I have been really cautious about my flights. Thanks for the number. I will try to give a call this week if I can make time. Double duty this week at work as our main sales person is on vacation.

Let us know how it goes Richard. Not many of us are flyign the Spectrum, but there are a few who know about them.

The TREX is very hard to hold in one place until your setup is spot on, even then if you throw in wind or gusts it is very hard to keep in one place. Don't give up!!

What Gyro are you using and what are your gain settings on it?
