Ok, I have the Freya mostly built and it's just about time to order my radio and gyro so here are a few questions for you guys;

Keep in mind I'm no pro, just now have a good solid tail in and side(both)hover down.

1) I have been eyeballin the JR 9303 radio and it comes with the 8311 digital servos. Are these good servos, good enough for what I'm paying for them? Would it be wiser to just get the radio and receiver and buy servos seperately? I know these things eat batteries so how many flights just hovering, some FF, would I get out of my stock batteries?

2) Am I going overboard by buying a 611 gyrow/servo? I mean damn man, $330!!! So, would a 401 do just fine for me, considering I'm a noob? What about the 502? Lay it on me, any and all advice is appreciated.

Thank you for all your help!!

John

Is this a 60 or a 90 if it's a 90 the 601W9251, if a 60 the JR 500T/8700G combo works great for any 60-70 machine. You can get the JR combo around $265 new.

The JR radio and servo's are fine. they are what I use in my helis. I would get the MAH ION batt System. you can get about 10 flights out of a charge with the set up your going with.

Hope this helps.

Oops sorry about that, it's the .90 version. Is this "MAH ION batt System" an option or do I need to order it elsewhere? Thanks for your help.

John,
Yes the 8311's will work just fine in a 90 size heli. I would go ahead and get the servos with the radio and receiver. Rick's R/C has that set up for
JRP9303 RADIO W/ 649 RCVR AND 4- 8311 DIGITAL SERVOS $700

The GY 611/9256 is the best gyro on the market. You will definitely not outgrow it.
The Gy 401/9254 is a little light for the 90 size model. But if your not going to be doing lots of backwards flight it will work fine.
The GY 502/9254 is better than the GY 401, they both use the same tail servo. It has more adjustability than the 401.

Not sure of the battery that comes with the JR radio set. But if it is in the 1700-2000 mah range you should get 3-5 flights between charges. The battery will be nicad, so it could be charged with a field charger.

Another option is to go with a Lithium/Ion battery system like the Duralite. With the 4000 mah Duralite battery you will get 12-14 flights between charges. With a 90 size heli that is a couple gallons of fuel. You will also need a regulator with the Li-Ion batteries to reduce the voltage. 5.1 to 5.6 is the range the voltage needs to be regulated .
Here is the Duralite setup

The above is $233. http://www.duralitebatteries.com/packages.html

You can read about Duralite's here on the forum in the Duralite section. They have some of the best customer service in the industry.

Rick's R/C sells the Duralite batteries, but if you want the above package you will have to order it directly from Duralite. I don't think Rick's has the packages, they just sell the batteries.
Hope this answers some of your questions.

Here is the MAH Lithom batt. System. $200 I have been using it for about two years now without any problems. Costomer serviece is great too.

You can get 10-12+ flights I never get a chance to put that many on in one day.

Great info here man, cool. Ok, I ordered the 9303 with four 8311's. I still haven't decided on the gyro but the 502 is so close price wise to the 611 that the choice is between the 401 or the 611. Decisions decisions.................

Thanks for all the great advice, going to go take a look at those batteries now. :noteworthy

I had the same heli and you will not regret the 611
I was running 9252s on the cyclic and a 9350 on collective with the push pull mod. I would suggest getting that. it really helps the collective servo.
