Hi,
What is the right clearance for the clutch, how much gap should it be to the liner?

When I instal new liners I use the MA ones and have them machined to .005-.007 they seem last longer, I did that when I built my 50v2 two years ago and have never had to replace the liner.

That is .005-,007 per side, Just to be clear.

well naturally it will be per side if the clutch is centered in the bell, would be kinda wierd if you had .005 on one side and .010 on the other, I measure the clutch and let the guys in the machine shop at work do the machining on the installed liner. I like to use the Min-Air liners because they are alot thicker than the TT ones.

I saw the following link just last week on clutch liners. Maybe it will help.

flyinfool,
I knew exactly what your intention was. Some guys might think it meant the total ID-OD difference in size then divide that incorrectly by two resulting in too small a clearance. Naturally it's always good to be helpful and clear.

I threw that in because I have seen people interpret that to mean a .006 difference between the ID and OD.

Thats a good article but you don't need 6 to 8 wraps of electrical tape to get the right gap, more like 2.

I have never used the tape method, I just have the new liner machined out but I have easy access to a full service machine shop at work.
