I have just bought the Trex heli and I was wondering if anyone could recommend which servos and RX I could use that are fairly cheap but still capable. Does the RX have to be a micro?? I have a Futaba TX and will probably use a Futaba GY401 gyro. Also, if you do know this info, where is a good place on line to get it?? Thanks guys!!!

Hitec HS 55's on everything but tail, HS50 on tail.
Set gyro to NON digital before you power it up.
Atlanta hobby dot com, or any online retailers on the main page will service your needs for the gear.
A micro Rx is best, but not required, many use PCM Rx's, I'm using a full size JR 9 channel FM unit. No problems except the weight..

One more question. I am used to nitro helis. How do I know when the electric heli is getting low on juice? Do I just need to bring it down after a certian amount of time like a nitro heli. Does the electric start to slow down or does it just shut down all together??

Following the advice of others, I break in a new pack with short hops for a couple of charge cycles.
As it breaks in you will notice what voltage/time it takes for performance to drop off, around 7 minutes is average for a stock machine, TP 2100's and a 420 LF, and this depends a lot on headspeed also. In normal mode, you might get 17 minutes..

it will drop off, slow down, start to wobble, lose power, etc.

How about a battery. Which price friendly battery can I get and where can I get it?? What voltage do I need 11.1 or 7.4??

11.1V 2100 mAh minimum. There are several brands cheaper than Thunder Power, but you will get a LOT less battery for the money too.
Best to spend a few extra dollars up front instead of having to replace lessor batteries...

I've heard the HS-50 on the tail tends to "wear out" pretty quick since its not all that strong. Anyone have any experience here?
I've got the CCPM version & getting the goodies together for it. I have plenty of the 55's but do I really need the speed of the 50? I'm in the novice category so for now I don't need anything fancy but I do want quality. Will a 55 do on the tail?
I also have some of the E-flight s75's (which I could swear are made by Hitec). There faster & stronger than the 55's. Has anyone got them on there Rex?.

I like the hs-56HB's on the swash pretty well. I ran it on the tail for quite a while and it held up ok. It does have a bearing on the output shaft and it seemed to hold up a little better that some others I tried but I didn't try all that many different servos.
the futaba 9650 is really nice on the tail but it's probably not worth it if you're just starting out, and it's at least double the price of the other servos, but it does work very nicely with the 401 gyro in the digital mode. So many choices.
As far as receivers, I've only used the Polk Seeker 6 and the Berg G4 receivers on the t-rexes and I'm very pleased with both. So far no glitches on either of them. the polk is synthesized, I think it's about $60 and it's easier to find than the berg receiver. here's a link for the polk...

Listen to lakespinner, the 56kb's are just a few bucks more and a better servo imho. The 9650 works great with the gy401. Rock soild combo.

I think the HS-50 tends to wear out because alot of peeps run the Align ESC's on there TREX's. Now I belive that the Align ESC has a 6V BEC. The HS-50 was not intended for 6V. :badair: just a brain fart

The S-75's develop slop so fast and they really get sloppy compared to the Hitec servos. I will have my TREX machines at Black Sheep and at Spartanburg this weekend Steve, so if you come down I will show you what I mean. When you go through zero degrees you can hear the sloop as blade noise.
I am now trying HS65's in my second TREX and they seem bvery good and a lot more powerful and less sloppy than the 56'd. We will see if they hold up ove time. They are also rated for 6V.
