Well my new Stinger 90 kit has arrived.
This is the first production kit that I will be assembling.
The kits should be ready to start shipping in 2-3 weeks, to give me time to get this one in the air and make sure that no lemons, gremlins or other nasties, crept in between the prototype and the final production version.
Some of the features of the new kit are;
ARF kit for fast Assembly.
Belt drive tail with all metal open tail box for reduced crash cost and gear hassles.
4.72 : 1 tail ratio for more solid control with a 401 and stock blades.
Metal Collective arm for more positive pitch control.
All metal head for strength.
Gel-coat fiberglass canopy.
List price of only $499.99.
Bear with me as this my first attempt at a build thread.
Here is the box.

This is the contents of the box.
I have closeups of the major assemblies in my gallery.

Step 1
Install the tail fin onto the tail box.
http://www.helifreak.com/album_mod/upload/428272a8756e3db8d2567d739e098e30.jpg
Step 2.
Slide the first push-rod support, then the horizontal fin, and the last three push-rod supports onto the tail boom housing.
Remove the tail-boom housing from the frames, (the screws are all left loose) split the halves so that the belt can be put over the pulley in the housings. put the housing back together and adjust belt tension.

Step 3,
Install tail-boom assy into frames.
I also installed the landing gear and tailboom supports at this time.

Step 4.
Install Main-shaft and gears into frame.
http://www.helifreak.com/album_mod/upload/d326b0a5a481ddb47926607e5b973b26.jpg
Step 5
Install head assembly onto main shaft and snap all links into place.
The links are all very tight and I will be spending a bunch of time with my reamer.

Step back, and low and behold, after only 45 minutes work, it looks like a heli. Next is to install the engine and electronics.
Stay tunned for more to come.

What engine are u going to use? Main and Tail Blades? Gyro? Servos?
here is my plan

Your plan sounds good to me.
I am hurrying with this as fast as I can. Really I am. :)
I should finish the build next week and be able to fly it the on weekend. (we don't have as much winter daylight as you southern folks do)
I have to pull all of the equipment out of the prototype, inspect everything, and then install and setup
I can say that the fits of parts on this kit are a lot better than on the Prototype that I have been flying.
I will be using an OS 91 PS, All 9252, 601/9251, GV1/9252, MAH LiOn 4400mAh batt and regulator and Futaba 14 channel RX.
I will be using either the MAH 710 or V 710 blades.
For now I will use the stock paddles and Tail.

Sounds great... I may upgrade to a GY601 or 611.. ALso plan on a GV1..

What is the difference between the 60 size Stinger then.??
what blades come with the 60 and 90s.
i may try 1 of them.
flyinfool

There are only 4 parts different from the 60 to the 90.
Boom
Belt
Main Gear
Pinnion gear
At the moment the only blades offered are some 680 FG blades for an additional $30.
They would be fine for a beginer but I dont trust them for any high G moves.
They fly better than woodies and are about the same price.
Gohbee does carry V-Blades and MAH blades at good prices.

Here is the next installment.
Step 6
Install the servos and pop on the links.
Now is a good time to look at where you plan to fit all of the electronics.
I have every thing up under the lid on this one.
Not that is not how the electronics will be mounted, for now they are just there to be able to plug in the servos.

Step 7
Install the motor mount, fan, clutch gov sensor and remote glow at this time.

I am getting there.
It still looks good for it to fly on Saturday if the weatherman cooperates. 6 going up to a high of 12°F and a 20-30 mph breeze just for good measure. wind chills will be well below zero. Time to dig out the snuggies.
Sunday looks better with a high of 19 and only 10-15 wind.
Just for you that are so patiently waiting for me to finish this so that you can get your kit, I will go out and brave the elements.:badair:

Thanks Jeff, fun, er testing is so hard!
You going to stay with the stock plastic fan? or upgrade to a metal one?
flyinfool

Testing is really hard work. :)
I think the worst part is having to behave myself and keep everything stock to be able to evaluate how the kit will actually perform in the real world.
I had no cooling problems with the stock fan in the prototype ship, and this fan is the same as the prototype, so I will use it till the engine tells me otherwise.
Last summer there were no cooling issues with temps into the high 90's.
I am a much better flier now than I was last summer and will push it harder but till it warms up around here I wont know about any cooling issues.
The weatherman lied, it wont be 6*F on Saturday the Stinkin weatherbum is now calling for -2*F for Sat. and high winds. I might actually stay home for a day, ..........NOT. :badair:

are parts readily available for this kit

I dont think kits are even readily available

I know the kits are becoming available. According to Gohbee the kits will be shipped as soon as Jeff here gets done with his evaluation. Hopefully the weather will hold so we can get some flying in ,, Right Jeff? :
As far as parts availablility. I am sure that if Gohbee releases the kits they will also have parts available...

Gohbee does have a full supply of parts ready to go.
First the good news;
I did finish the Stinger 90 last night and took it to the field with me today.
Now the bad news;
When I got to the field it was -11*F with a 15-20mph wind for a wind chill of somewhere around -20 something. I did fly my Stinger 50 but decided not to maiden the 90 with it that cold and windy. It only took about 2 minutes till I could not feel or move my fingers anymore and the 401 and/or the 9254 shut down in the air.
Sorry but not the kind of conditions for me to do a maiden flight :dontknow
Maybe tomorrow, it's supposed to get up to 12 or 15*F

Thanks again,

Man we just had the 2nd warmest January on record with an average temp of 34*F.
Now today is at zero and the wind is 20-30mph. The weather-bums are still predicting a "warm-up" to around +16*F. but with the 20-30mph wind.
Well maybe I'll at least try to hover the 90, and work on needle settings.
Its making me crazy to have a new toy that has not been played with yet.
It's just been sitting there collecting dust as a hanger queen for like 36 hours now.

IT LIVES
I got it flying today. WooHoo.
I couldn't do to much with the 20-30 mph wind bouncing things around.
It was surprisingly stable with the amount of turbulence that there was coming off the tree line.
When I built it I used all of the links as supplied and installed at the factory.
When I checked the pitch I had +/-13*, so I left it that way for throttle hold, and set the Idle-ups to +/-11.
The only links I had to change was 1 turn on the short link at the blade grip for tracking and 2 turns of the elevator link at the servo for a level swash
It only needed 2 clicks of elevator trim and one click of aileron. I can get rid of one of the turns on the elevator push-rod and it should bring the trim back to zero
I need to cut the pitch curve down to +/-10.
I may be able to raise the pitch back up once the motor is broken in better and I can lean it out some more.
I am flying with an old R60 lid till I get a chance to splash some paint on the nice glass lid that came with the Stinger.

Hey Jeff,
Sounds great. It's good to see Gohbee and David making a big splash in the 90 size market.
Hope all is going well with you and yours.

Which engine do you have?
What type of flying do you intend to do?
What main blades do you have?
