hi,

First post so please go easy. New to rc helicopters and am having problem with tt pro 39 muffler. Muffler losend from the engine and when I tightend it back up the gasget went in the muffler. When I took the three pice muffler apart the ornge O rings broke, tried to get new gasget and O rings but imposable. when I asked my local hobby store they said to use high temp RTV. Used the stuff and ran the engine and now the muffler wont stay tight. what do I do now? Thanks for any help.

Hey Matt. Sounds to me like you stripped the mufler bolts and housing. Un fortunately the only thing you can do is, buy new muffler and bolts. Unless you are well skilled with re-tapping threads. Sorry buddy, but sometimes there is no easy way out. Good luck to you.

You could file down the shoulder and just use a nut and washer with a longer bolt. As far as a gasket, buy some gasket material and make your own. A good hobby knife and a straight edge is all you need. Orings can be gotten at just about any place that makes hoses and belts.

Thanks for the advice, after looking into a one pice muffler I think will just bite the bullet and buy one. I reely did not wont to put a lot of money into a 39, will be geting the 50 upgrade sooner or later.

well if you dont want to spend any money, just get bolts long to pass thru the other side of the muffler, and back nut it, as far as the RTV not working, did you let it dry at least 24 hours before starting the engine? and like they said before again.. gasket material and a sharp knife or scissors.. 5 bucks mabye??

The bolt I am having trouble with is the one that is about 6" long that runs thru the muffler it wont stay tight with RTV or locktite. But to answer your question no I only let the RTV dry about 8 hours. I will try it again and let it dry for 24 hours. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate everyones help

Oh, I misunderstood, I thought you were having trouble with the bolts that hold the muffler to the engine and just the o-ring issue. Is the bolt or nut stripped? if its not, I assume you are using red loctite, not blue loctite? Red is for high heat, blue is removable with heat.. RTV will not hold anything together, it would just take the place of the broken o-rings. My TT 30 muffler is 2 piece and has a bolt, with a nut recessed at the other end, is this the case with yours?

the bolt is not striped, but I did use blue locktite, I did not know heat would loosen the blue. I will try the RTV again and let it dry 48 hours and use red locktite just to make sure. Do you use RTV or gaskets and O rings? Before this my motor did not leak a drop of oil- except for the tip-. BTW the motor only has a gallon of fuel thru it.

My muffler is still intact from the factory, so the answer is o ring, but I do cut my own gasket between the engine and muffler, its very simple. You say your engine is " leaking" oil and you are on your first gallon of fuel. Did you follow the break in instructions with the new engine? If you did the first settings reccomended from the manufacturer are Very rich so that the engine breaks in correctly and you do not overheat it. Is this your first glow engine? Helicopters are inherantly messy with raw fuel because the fact that they do not cool themselves as well as fixed wing aircraft passing through new air all the time. Also hovering in your smoke the heli recycles its own air causing raw fuel to get over everything. The rich setting on helis is also to keep more raw fuel entering the engine to help cool it. Dripping from the tailpipe is OK Thats good news that the bolt is not stripped, just use red loctite on it and let it dry overnight you should be good to go. Good luck!
