View Full Version : OWB question
So this one way bearing in the 550 Gaui went bad the first time I spun her up is this a common thing and is it why we now only use one washer, or should I be looking for a different cause for the OWB failure ? all gear mesh checks out and it never spun up past half throttle, I well be replacing the bearing and hopping for the best. I used white lithium grease to lube the bearing when I installed it witch I do on all my OWBs and thrust washers. And also is there any point in addressing this issue with Gaui and should I also be replacing the shaft it goes on, I did not see any issues or damage with the shaft so I did not order that part.

personally... I don't lube my OWB... some do.. some don't.. some soak it in automatic tran fluid for a day then install it..others use tri-flow...some use white grease.. you'll get lots of different answers to should you lube it or not..
I don't lube it because if you think about it... you want it to lock up... that's it's whole purpose in life...when power is applied, it locks to the shaft...the only time you need it to not lock is... when power isn't applied... for MOST that means yopu're on the ground... the rest is during an auto.
I hope you ordered the 20T OWB when you ordered a replacement... if not... you'll replace it again soon enough

I lightly oil with 5w30 and wipe off any excess with a paper towel.

No oil or lube on my OWB's and they have held up great. If it's not broke, i'm not fixin it lol!
Alrighty than,,,, no lube on the OWB, looks like I shall try something new, I have always used white lithium grease on the OWB and this is the first one with out giving the heli a dirt nap that I have seen go bad, but I well definitely go with the masses. And yes Mysticmead I ordered booth the stock replacement and the 20t OWB. I think I well replace with the stock and see just how long it last just for shi*s and giggles. I well also be disassembling the bad OWB to see where it broke down. Now I must say” that of all the forms I visit and post to and even sometimes post a reply, this Gaui form in my opinion is no dought the most laid back and easiest form to circumnavigate. Thanks…

you may get a complicated do a search reply:lol:........
when you strip your faulty owb there's these little plastic spring loaded tags that lock the rollers one way and release them the other.so if there's any evidence of itsy bitsy bits of plastic in there.......its converted itself to a bwb(both way bearing) and good for sfa:shock:
