Just got this gyro a cople weeks ago and in the instructions for installation and hookup it states, refer to the diagrams for proper positioning of gyro. The diagram is not clear on witch direction to set gyro. I am flying a rapter 50 V2. I mounted the gyro sideways behind the mainshaft,so I could get to the switches and the servo travel limiter pot. Is this correct or should it be turned to face forword? I flew a few times last weakend and all seamed well, loops and rools ok.But when Istoped and done a flip the tail blows out, what could cause this. I use a 8103.

what servo are you using and how do you have it set up. The best servo is the 8700G for the best holding power. The position is fine, on were it is located.
you should be using your Gear switch for N and HH The Gains in the gear section sould be about 52% HH or higher with out tail wage. you should also have the D/R Rudder section set up as well with about 80% to control the piro rate on D/R mode and 20% on Expo to dampen the Abrupt stopping.
If your tail is letting go your headspeed must be dropping to much What head speed you running. Or your gain is to low.

Hi bighands3d Iam using the 8700g servo. There is nothing about using the gear switch for N and HH. I am using aux2 on a jr649s. I have it setup to work from the flight mode switch. In normal d/r & exp (pos-o,d/r at 80%, exp +40%. and in pos-1 auto apears, d/r at 100%, exp +70%) Not real sure about HH in flight, sure about HH in hover. I wont to be in HH at all time. That is what I am use to when I had my 401 installed. Gyro servo switch is in high frame rate. I went back through my 8103 manual after work today and found that in the aux2 input selection I found gear switch was active, manual says if using aux2 for remote gyro sensitivy function should be inh position. Could this be the cause of my prob or do I need to set it up a diferent way? Not sure about headspeed. Before I changed to the G500T,my headspeed was around 1950. Set at the last funfly I went to. LARKS MAYDAY in louisana, sulfer. From the sound my headspeed is a little low. Dont have a tack yet.

Wow, Vidor, Texas!! I remember that sign they used to have there on the outskirts of town! Still just as crazy there?

Since you have the 8103 I'd use the Gear switch and since your going to be in HH all the time there is no need to use the aux 2. I think you can select the D/R modes for your flight mode piro rates like you have now. I't been a while since I had my 8103. You may have found the problem with the inh of Aux 2. I like to keep things simple the gear switch is alwasy the easiest way to set on up. It's not like you have to go from N to HH all the time and the gryo sensitivty section I have never really used because of the 401 settings on JR radios. I haven't even tried them on my 9X with the 500T.
Maybe you found it if not go back and try the Gear switch. I think when using aux 2 and going from different flight modes you turned off the HH and went to N you can ck it staticly on the bench look for the servo to go to center in N mode and in HH it will stay were you moved the tail. Try this with your flight mode switch N,1,2.

Hi Johnssn700, not quite as crazy here.
Hi bighands3d, thanks for the input. havent thought of checking HH that way. I checked and found it stays in HH in N,1,2 eather way gear switch act or inh. did notice that tail blades go to the left by themself, a wigle of the stick, left to right a cople times and thay still go to the left. is this normal or not? I can set my sub trim to keep this from hapening. is that the thing to do? after I used subtrim thay stay where I put them. thanks agine for the input.

3DNUTS,
Yes, with the 500 gyro you need to set the subtrim to eliminate creep. The 500 doesn't sample the center value on power up like Futabas do. The way I set mine is to crank the HH gain all the way up and adjust subtrim till it quits creeping. Then you can turn the gain back down and use as normal.

Hi guys. No chance to fly this weakend due to rain. Maybe next weakend. Have next saterday off,as for now. Got my new shogunV2 together yesterday. Hope to get a chance to test it out. Thanks again.

Well I finely got a day off. Did not think it would ever come. I will let yall know how it turns out. Thanks again guys. :banana
What do you guys think of the 500T compared to the futaba Gyros?

What do you guys think of the 500T compared to the futaba Gyros?I really like the 500. I think holds as well or maybe better than a 401, and has a more consistent piro rate. Don't like it as well as a 611 or CSM 720, but it is my favorite "starter" gyro

Hay guys I findlt got a day off and got out to the field. After a little hovering (to get the fill again) it was time to fly.Every thing seamed fine untill I got into some fff and the tail started to wag, lowered the gyro gaine from 70% all the way down to 45% before it would stop. Then went to idle up 1 and it would start turning to the right. gyro gain at 80%,had to lower to 50% to get it to stop. head speed around 1900. tried a flip :happyd aok. Thanks for the input guys. Is my gyro gain to low or is it ok. I am not a 3D pilot YET! Someday. can do ff, loops, rolls, flips, ect. and some o----- things. Good bailout practice. Tryed to do some inverted today :WOW .Thanks agin guys

Gain is just a number, it depends on your servo arm length as well.
Did you zero out the drift using sub trim?

BarracudaHockey, yes I did use sub trim to ajust drift. The ball is out 16mm.
Going out again this weakind to burn some more fuel.
Fly hard and land soft is my motto.
Thanks for the input guys.
