Well The FF went well and Will got some good video cant wait to see what he got
The double stacked gears are sweet i put down some good flights on my Ion and no wear@ all and the double gear is very smooth when flying.

Will along wiht a few others couldnt believe what i was throwing @ my Ion and it didnt flinch once HS wise in any maneuver

Bobby's Ion's ROCKED. People could not believe the performance. Wait until you see the video. E-Power may be expensive, but it spanks a 90 Nitro...NOW!!!

Good job Bobby!

I have 3 sets of the TP 8000's and I can tell you first hand that lightening up the heli by 1 pound withthe 5300's puts the Ion in a completely new performance class than what I am flying. It does however cut hte flight time roughly in half.

Thank you Chris Stephenson and MA for ASS KICKING Helis!!!

MA Ion does ROCK , I have a set of 5300s , that only has 3 flights on them 2 flights , Bobby did at IRCHA , and the last flight was Karl at IRCHA with the Ion 50 conversion , just waiting for summer , CANT wait either , any events in the south during may and June??? my plans are this , Ion X actro 32-3 , 100t main , 11s4p 5300s he he grunt grunt . now thats ganna be a ripping Ion, I have 2 5s 5300 , 1 6s5300, 2 7s5300s,

This is a great idea. :glasses2: I've tried three different belt setups, and can't find one that can handle the incredible 4000W+ power of a 1521 on a 12s setup without ripping the belts up. Looks like this might just do the trick. :) Can't wait to try one.

We believe the problem with the belts is the lack of contact area between the belt and the pinion in the high ratio setups.

What we have done and will be testing very soon is to move the motor as far back in the frames as possible by changing the motor mount plate, rear support channel and lower frame plate. This increases the distance between the jackshaft and motor shafts which decreases the angle of the belt as it exits and enters the motor pinion thus giving a greater contact area. We'll be testing it on a 32-3 first as this is only a 2:1 ratio and the pulleys are only a 2:1 difference in diameter. If this works we'll go to a Neu and the 4:1 ratio and see what that does.

On paper it looks good....we'll see.

That should definitely help the belt drive setup. With the Neu, we found it would shred the belt the first time you pull on it, everytime. With the 32-3, which like you point out has more teeth on the belt, it will actually last 8 or 9 flights before it finally gives out. All of these were with the Kevlar-reinforced polyurethane 5.08 XL belts. I just got some of the fiberglass-reinforced Neoprene versions that we will try with the 32-3.

For the 1521, we are thinking about using the 95T main gear with the 10T intermediate pinion. That will allow use of a 34T/13T pulley combo to get more "meat" in contact.

How are the double gears holding up? Has anybody tried a 1521 on 12s with this setup yet? In our tests the single gears didn't last any longer than the kevlar belts. The heat/torque simply melted the teeth off each time.

Sounds Great Gary and Chris!

If you get this working, I will be interested.

Guess there will be no double size 60 tooth white gears then if this will work.

Keep up the good work, and keep us updated.

Will do some more 12S testing my self on Sunday I hope.

I have used the the double 60 tooth on 12s there was a few problems but talking to Chris i think we have it sorted out there is a few more things that need beefed up for 12s

Nick flew the crap out of his Ion today, with the 32-3, 12s3p-6000s and the 24T/12T pulleys using the new fiberglass-reinforced Neoprene belt. We need to get a few more flights in to know for sure, but so far it looks good. No sign of wear at all. :) Next we'll take mine, which has the 1521, and swap the 90T main gear for the 95T version, and use the 10T intermediate pinion. That will allow use of a 34T/14T pulley combo, instead of the problematic 40T/10T set you need to use with the standard 90T/15T main gearing set.
