Hi Everybody,
I installed the new 100T Main Gear in my ACTRO 32-3 equipped Ion last night and I wanted to report back.
The install was VERY easy, and no carbon had to be slotted, it just bolted right in. The existing slots in the carbon frames and doublers, and on the base plate had plenty of lattitude to slide over to accomodate the new larger gear.
Now if this snow storm will just go away, I can get some test flights in!!

There is a plan for the Century CF frameset.

For use in Century products we charge triple for the gears....

Thanks for the feedback Will - mine should be here next week - sounds like it should be a real short job.
Also have a Neu for the other Ion in the package - been reading your reports with interest - looking forward to seeing the results for myself :)
Later man,

I received my 100T gear last week along with some other parts. Installed the gear last night and had to make a very-very minor adjustment to the slots in the frame to set the gear lash properly. Gave it a go earlier today despite the bad WX.
First observation was that the headspeed was indeed down from the 9.5:1 ratio. Was 2250 RPM and I measured the headspeed at approximately 2080.
As you can see in the two charts, hover current dropped from a nominal 44A with the 9.5:1 ratio down to 41A with the 10:1 ratio.
Peak (full collective) current was measured at 107A! (9.5:1) and 94A (10:1).

hey Roger , well what do you think of the trade off as far as the flight, Im hoping to see more action of the heli as far as responce with the added torque , it should fine tune the heli a bunch

Hi Tony,
What I could feel from the one flight today (my session was cut short due to a blown tail servo output arm  ) was that the 'pop' or initial collective surge was diminished but was replaced by a more consistent headspeed throughout the flight envelope.
I did notice that the lower punch requires a smidgen more collective input when performing tic-tocs, etc. but manageable. Overall, bogging was waay diminished.
Since my heli is currently at 12 lbs+ AUW, once I get my mitts on some lighter batteries I feel that this will be a very nice set-up for this heli. :D

hey , all you have to do is add 1 degree of more pitch , you are back to the same punch and the same higher amp draw as with the 95t , but like you said , the bogging will go away alot , cant wait to try my Ion 10s with the tj pro on board with this gear

12 lbs  why so heavy , my Ion with the 40-160 7 oz esc and 10s4p prolites weigh 11 lbs

You are right Tony! I will reset the pitch and give it another try after I find a new servo arm!

I've been flying with some heavy batteries from my big plane Tony! Saving up for some new PL's...

Using a more efficient gear ratio you can pull 11/11 pitch you loose alittle pop but you have more blade loading power for doing maneuvers
I got a chance to watch HC fly Wills Ion wiht the 100 tooth it look real nice but i didnt get a chance to fly it I had a good idea what is what doing because i flew mine wiht a PT 106 main gear a few months back

Hi,
Got my 100t gear the other day (Thanks Chris) haven't installed it yet been reading up on the conversion instructions.
How important is it to use the fan on the Actro ? and is it easy to remove ?
Anyone got a picture of their Ion with the Actro in but wthout the battery frames attached, just want to see a picture of what needs sanding away.
Simon.

simon you have to cut the fingers off the frame if you want to run the fan. I fyou dont run the fan do five minute flights wiht a break in between and it will work fine
I also have a set of single stage Ion frames they were made for the the actro no tcutting needed and they are a few oz lighter if interested let me know

I'm having a go at fitting the motor at the moment. In the instructions with the conversion kit it shows the motor without the silver end bit on, should I leave it on ?
Also the top bearing block attached to the new pinion has 4 holes each side, do you just use 2 each side with the shortest bolts that comes with the kit ?
Cheers
Simon.

Hello Simon
You use the lower of the two holes in each side of the bearing block. If you are using the Actro heli motor, you do not need the fan, hence why it is no longer there. remove the lower bell or cover...or whatever it's called. The heli motor sheds heat well enough on it's own. If you did want to use the fan, it is tricky but you can manage to get it into the frames without totally removing the fingers...only thinning them down a bit.

I will try to take a photo tonight or tomorrow Simon. The 100T main gear works, and I like it. Seems to put hte motor into a better torque range than the 95T. We flew it this weekend at Port charlotte and it was a little nicer with the 100T than withthe 95.
Bobby stole the show with his Ion's, that was an AMAZING display of E-Power. I shot video you guys are gonna FREAK-OUT!!

Hi,
If you are using the Actro heli motor, you do not need the fan
You do mean the fan that comes assembled on the bearing/pinion part ?
If I don't need the fan then I don't need to cut the frames ?
remove the lower bell or cover...or whatever it's called
I manaul shows it without it but all other pics I've seen still have it on, ok to leave it ?
Thanks
Simon.

I left the lower cover on my Actro and it does not run hot at all. Even after HC spanked it for 6 minutes at PC Event, in the FLA sun, it was cool enough to hold my finger on it.
I am runnign the white fan on the stack and I did cut the fingers out of my frames. Not sure how much the fan helps keep things cool, but my setup has never run hot and should last a LONG time. I have 89 trouble free flights on this setup since I got it in early August.

Simon just take the fan off and you will not have to cut any frames

Thanks Bobby :glasses:
How does the fan come off, is just a tight push fit ?
