I've never used training gear. I spent a lot of time on the sim, and when I got my T-Rex to the field for the first time, I just flew it. Not really well, mind you, but not mind-bending awful. I brought it home in pretty much the same number of pieces it left home as.
I'm still doing the whole hovering thing, as I haven't quite convinced the thumbs that forward flight is a good idea...:)

Boom,
Man those Evo's are mean aren't they!! In three years I lost one race, one, it was from a 45mph roll against a blown Cobra. He beat me by about 1/2 a car! Had it been from a dig story would have been very different.
Well I sold the car and bought a Honda Ridgeline. I loved the Evo but I'm old and needed more room for the heli's. I have to admit, this truck is really growing on me! Thing rides like a Caddy. I really like it.

I have a pic in my gallery of the flooding at IRCHA 05, that really was a crazy storm, and it came out of nowhere!
I bought a scion xB (the box) because I can fit better in it than ANYTHING I have ever sat in (I am 6'6") and I can fit 5 or more 90 size helis with the back seats folded down...and I get 30 mpg!!! its my heli hauler :D

Training gear is just to build up confidence and helps get out of a very low level mistake fast! My first flight I had a hoola hoop and my rapy 50 ve driftend all over the place, getting far quite fast so lowering down fast, settling down and trying again was an excellent thing. Performance wise .... mmm why sould you wnat full performance for just hovering? Get your engine stable, with stable rpms and constant power and a good hovering setting. When you get more proficient at hovering and advance, take off the training gear and seek performance.
Trust me, it is just much safer to use the training gear (that is, properly setup) than not. Just my 2 cents

Try the heli in the back seat with the tail run between the front seats. Should fit no Porblem, however you wont be speed shifting. When all else fails...... Get an STI. And I have whooped some Evo's 8's and 9's.

Well I just finished a PMAX 90 and it will fit in the trunk of my GTO.....just barely. I have to pull the main blades and canopy, but it'll fit. Once the 90 goes in the 50 slips in right beside it with no problem.
Of course it was hilarious trying to put it in there the first time to figure out which end had to go in first, at what angle, what had to come off, where to put the flybar, and swing it in just so, about 1/4" clearance but it fits fine once you get it past the trunk opening.
Fly with training gear until you know:
1. You can bring it to a hover and touch down rather than landing while drifting
2. You're comfortable enough in a hover not to just chop stick.
Then put the training gear away for a month until you're ready to push through nose in (though some people aren't bothered by nose in).

Looking at the pic of the golf cart splashing through the puddle. Man I hope there wasn't anybody in the brown house when it tipped over.
Even if your good at the sim the training gear can still save you a lot of money and down time. Less bashed up blades and booms.
