Went and bought myself a new Hirobo Evo Freya, just got it built(well mostly anyway) and I'm so proud of my new Evo. Oh she's so beautiful. So after I get it built I go to put it in my car to take it home and guess what?? Yep, won't fit in the back seat!! Well I can get it in there but I have to remove the canopy and do lots of "gentle adjusting". I thought for sure it would fit in my car, it has a "full sized backseat", yeah right. Car is also an Evo, Mitsubishi Evolution. Car and Heli are both an Evo!! Too bad they don't go to well together. :badair:

lol.... i guess the back seats dont fold down then do they?? Thats why I drive a Honda!!! :D

Fold the passenger seat all the way down and put the heli in the seat with the seatbelt over it (tailboom pointing twards rear glass)

GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have that problem too if I don't have my wagon. I took my better half's car to Chattanooga year before last and had to remove the canopy to get my Freya in the back seat!

Time to go car shopping. Take the heli with you. :)
I have no problem getting helies in the back of a full size P/U w/8'box
Heck after hurricane IRCHA blew threw I found 17 helies in the back of my truck, most of them I never saw before :dontknow  :badair:

I'm guessing you haven't ever ridden in an Evo huh? It's not so easy to fold the passenger seat down, actually it's a royal pain in the butt! But I do love the car, and it eats Honda's for lunch! Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, Guess I'll just use the Wife's SUV, it can carry it no problem. Still kind of shows my planning skills doesn't it!?!

Now how did Flyinfool end up with 17 extra heli's in his truck??? Tell us the story on this one, please.

That's why I sold my SRT-4. Well that... and I got tired of whooping punk Evo's all the time.

My back seats actually did fold down and I would have to lay the helicopter sideways with the boom in the trunk.

Not 17 ectra helies, just 17 helies, 5 of them were mine.
When the storm hit there were people frantic to get there helies out of the storm, saw others putting helies in the back of my truck and did likewise.
It ws hilarious after the storm when I went to get something out of the truck and saw all of the nice toys. I thought I won a lottery or something. Like I said there were helies in there that I never saw before. They were stacked in there like cordwood.
I thought that maybe it was time to go home.

Ha ha, now that is funny!!! :badair: I see those kids on ricer boards claiming that all the time, though I've yet to see it happen I have seen several in my rear view.

Oh I see now. Imagine if you had just gotten in your truck and driven home, wow what a surprise you would have had(and all the guys at the flying field too!) when you peeked back there!! Christmas Time!!!!

I didn't read all the replies here, but why not put it in the long way with the canopy facing the back fo the back seat and fun the tail up between the front seats? If you push it off to one side a bit should should still be able to shift.

Oh yea, thanks Jeff for letting put 3 heli's in the back of your truck that wonderful afternoon!!

I ended up throwing out my tent once I got back home after IRCHA. Time for a bigger better one. One that can withstand all that is IRCHA-CH-CHA-CHA!

Ha!

I'll give that a try and see how it works. I love this Evo(the car) but now I wish I would have bought the Suby Forester. :arggg:

I have a 2004 GTO. The most fun of any car I ever owned, but it is NOT helicopter friendly.

Good thing my wife has a Jeep Liberty.

I know what you mean about "Heli Friendly" but man those GTO's are nice! Guess I'll have to use the wifes SUV also. Enjoy the GTO!!! :noteworthy

I got a pretty good screw up story to tell.

I saw a the DVD "learning to hover" and the british man on the video used a little hoola-hoop for training gear. I thought that looked more stable for landing than the crossed sticks so I made my own hoola hoop. Bone headed me did not attach the hoop properly to the helicopter and in flight the hoop moved and fell off the back of the landing skids.

2 min in flight the helicopter pitched forward and blades went flying :arggg: .
I figured the training gear would help from not causing a crash, but instead cause the crash. Bent tail boom, flybar, and broken blades. I guess it wasn't too bad, just make sure training gear can not come loose.

Similar thing happened to me with a Rotopod. The legs are screwed in, per the instructions, but I lost two in doing some triangle work some time back. Long story short, when the bird came in for a landing it rocked back to where the two legs weren't and the blades hit. After the fix, I CA'd the legs in the base. Never had a problem after that. Unfortunately, I pulled my training gear off shortly after that anyway so now I have this huge Rotopod in my garage that I can't take apart :P.

Do you guys think the training gear helps that much? I'm half tempted not to use any on my first flight, but instead get a lot of stick time on a simulator. With all the practice I've been getting, I'm not sure I need any training gear (definitely not trying to get overly confident!). I have no problem landing nice and level, and I can hover and land no matter which way the heli in the sim faces. I think the extra weight would kind of ruin the handling a bit anyway, but if I'm as nervous as I think I will be I might use some training gear anyhow.

Training gear can't hurt. Simulator is different than the real thing in some minor ways. Pucker factor can effect stick time on a real bird as well.

Of course this is just in my opinion. I don't think it can hurt. You'd be surprised how gear can save blades or a tail boom in wind gusts or on the first couple of landings. Building some gear is pretty cheap too. Two wooden dowels, four wiffle balls, some zip ties and some screws....

Espeefan,
The training gear helped me on my very first flight. I made them myself with 4 wooden dowels and a small hula hoop. I had been doing great on the sim also, just like you. But I kept reading about my nerves getting in the way when I flew the real thing. Being anxious to fly once I finished building the heli, I decided to hover it in my backyard which I thought was big enough. Turned out it was smaller than I thought. I hovered only about 6 inches off the ground. When I got it to that point, it started to drift and I knew that I needed to trim it out. But since it was drifting, I was having problems flying and trimming at the same time. I came very close to a tree (more than once) and pulled back on the stick which caused the heli to lift it's nose. Flying that close to the ground, if I didn't have the hoop, I would probably have struck the tail on the ground in one case and the blades on the ground in another instance. So, the hoop saved me both times. Now that I'm hovering at 6 feet or better, there is less of a need for the gear. But they give me piece of mind on my landings until I get more experience on the real thing, especially in gusty conditions. I'm flying a Tiger 50 with the hyper engine and the weight of the gear doesn't seem to have any impact at all. The Tiger flys just fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks Gunner. I guess I'll probably run some training gear for the very reason you stated. Never know how the heli is going to react when it isn't trimmed up. Good advice.

What do you mean, not heli friendly. I have a 2005 GTO and can fit 2 50's in the trunk with camping chair. Field bag goes up front, radio case goes in the passenger floorboard, trex case and charger in the back seat. And you have more time to fly, because you can get there faster!!!

I put training gear on for my first flight and they broke at the field when I set it on the ground. I wasnt about to go home so I just flew it. Landed it fine.... Never looked back. If you have alot of sim time i would say try it without. That way you dont get dependent on them. Its what ever you feel though!
