Hi

I was looking to get my next heli in the 550/600 class size and I thought I'd check out the outrage 550 since I'm loving the G5 so much but I just had a few questions.

If I go with another heli of this size I wanted to put it on 8 or 10S, just in case I decide to go to a full 600 model after it. That and I didn't like how hard my Hurricane 550 was on 6s using a z-30 motor with 500 mm blades and there were some going to 8 or 10s even on the light Hurricane . So will there be enough space to get an adequate sized 8s pack in it and would the power train be able to handle an 8-10s load given if the headspeed is kept close to stock?

jujiro...yes Charley designed the frames to accommodate 8S 3700 Bricks...but...it is unanimous with all of our factory pilots that 8S would only be overkill...I brought pinions and ten 8S 3700mAh bricks to IRCHA with me to allow the team pilots to change over to 8S if they wanted to...none did...and I returned the 8S packs back to stock...

I think you will find that the 550 will do just fine on 6S...obviously if you want to run 8S on yours...that is up to you...and would love to hear the results and how you like it...but...if you have 6S 5000 packs already...then I think you should try the 6S yourself first!

But...the heli and power train will work fine on 8S...a motor around 1100kv range should be fine with just changing pinions to fly it on 8S...

What ESC do you recommend using with the 6s packs?

Thanks for the response :).

I was just curious of options available to the frame. I wasn't really looking for more power as it looks plenty powerful enough, maybe just slightly longer runtimes or cooler running electronics .
I don't currently own any 6s 5000 mah batteries so I'm pretty much starting from scratch on a power system of this size, well that's with the Z30 I have in my Hurricane 550 that will most likely get harvested for the outrage :lolol., I'll probably just wait around for others to get theirs first and see how it looks on 6s for them. I mean HC and the others make the Outrage 550 look insanse, but I've seen top pilots make even a stock hurricane 550 @ 1800 rpms look powerful andI just like seeing how things perform from average level useres .

actually now that I think of it I think I will try it on a 6s setup first . I have 2 6s 3300 zippy batteries I use on my T-rex 500 and a Z-30 1100 kv motor around. Only thing I'd have to get is an ESC since I'm not sure if a 50 A esc would be enough for 550 mm blades ? . My flight times would probably be cut down to 3 minutes is all

The factory pilots are running Phoenix 125, and HV85's on the 6S setups

im using a hobby wing 80, other than the super soft start not being very soft. it seems to do the job.

Here is my recommendations at this moment in testing 6s5000 25c, Z30-1110kv Rocks for power and performance i would like to test other motors but need to find some to try.
For best all around ESC CC125 or HV85 using gov mode with a 13-14t pinion depend on Head speed and flight times you seek

smallest pack I recommend is 6s4200 problems faced with going smaller will be CG

ohh I totally forgot about how those small packs would effect CG. Guess I'll just go out and get some 6s 5000 mah batteries so Cg won't be way off. I haven't decided on an esc yet but you guys have given plenty of options to decide from. :). Btw just out of curiosity around what headspeed does is use ?

Now I just need to free some space up that my Hurricane 550 is occupying for the outrage lol.

Headspeed is ranging from 2000-2300 rpm depends on what you want

So of course the question remains.....When will it be on sale to the general public? I'd really like to get a flybarless set up

Charley,

Has their been any testing using the Jazz 80 ESC?

Thanks

Hm 10mm? No way to put it into Trex500 whithout changing bearingblocks :(
But anyway great bird!

The Outrage 550 and T-Rex 500 are in completely different classes, so I wouldn't expect them to be able to interchange parts. The Outrage 550 is much larger than a T-Rex 500.

At least Outrage did it right by naming the 550 for its blade size.

I agree. It would have looked strange if they called it the Outrage 1100 and named it off the kv of the motor.

I thought electric helis were just odd like that ;p . From what I heard, some go by the old method of using the can size the heli's motor used T-rex 500, Protos 500, while others go by maximum blade size the heli can use. I think they should decide on one or the other to make it nice and clear lol.

Me too. I vote blade size.

RC-TEK hedges their bets and uses both with the Diablo and Sky-Shark, which are now designated RCT-450(325), i.e. a 450 motor size class heli that uses 325mm blades.

The SJM line that they sell has transitioned to strictly blade size I believe.

Blade size is definitely more indicative of the physical size of the heli, so my vote also goes for blade size.

I have been flying the heck out of my 550 this past couple of weeks. It is simply a bad ass machine. I think the size of it is perfect. The T-rex 500 is nice, yet just a little to small for reall windy days, and a bit to waspy, if you know what I mean. I have flown the 550 in 25 mph winds, and It has impressed me to no avail. It weight like 6.5 pounds ready to fly, yet reacts to the wind like it is a 10 lb heli in the air. I run a little higher head speed, and the heli works absolutely flawlessly in any conditions.

I posted some motor testing in another section, yet have some new stuff to test and will report back next week.

If you havent seen this heli in Silver carbon, DON'T! You wont even think about it, you will beg, borrow, or steel to get one. It looks incredible with carbon frames. This is going to be a fun experience for who ever buys one. Finally something stable, and powerful, in a compact size. Charley out did himself again.
