View Full Version : 14MZ Heli Config matching 9ZHP

I would like to be able to fly my CCPM helis with both my transmitters at this time. I know the 14mz configures the channels differently and they recommend changing them. Is there that much of a difference in the operation of the servos if I configure my 14mz the old way?

If I change to the 14mz method then I will also have to change my 9Z's config also.

Has anyone experimented with this?

Thanks,

Michael

Leave the 14MZ channel assigments just like they are defaulted in the transmitter.
The channels are grouped together to maximize performance for eCCPM.

You must have a 149 DP 1024 PCM receiver in the heli if you want to use both the 9Z and 14MZ transmitters. The 9Z will not work with the 14MZ receiver that is 2048 PCM I don't believe.

The channel assignment in the 14 work better for eCCPM than the 9z.
I don't know if the 9Z can be changed to match the 14.
So you will have to decide if you are willing to give up some of the performance that you paid for in the 14 to maintain compatibility with your old 9Z.

David,

Thanks for the quick reply.
All my receivers are PCM1024 and I know that the 9Z will not work with the new 14 Channel G3.

I guess I can change the 9Z's channel assignments to match the 14MZ, along with the servo's physical connections on the 1024 receivers.

I can't believe that there is that much of a difference in speed/differential though? I am in no rush to fly with the 14MZ so I will experiment first and see if I can notice anything.

I wish Futaba would have just left things the way they were!

There was a very good reason for the change.
It really makes a difference.

There is a big difference in the how the channels work and are grouped in the 14MZ with eCCPM. Than how they work with the grouping in the 9Z.

I don't have a 14MZ, I am still using the 9Z. But from the 14MZ's I have used to fly eCCPM helis. I would prefer the 2048 PCM over the 9Z.
I am waiting for the 12Z, hope to have one in the next couple of months.

If I had a 14MZ, no way would I be using the 149DP 1024PCM receivers. I would use the receivers that are designed to be used with the 14MZ.

David,

I can't afford to get rid of all my PCM1024 receivers! PCM1024 is fine with me especially at the price of the 14MZ's 2048 receiver which is unbelievably small by the way.

I started to program one of my Furys using re-assigned 14MZ channels (to match my 9Z) and so far I can't tell a difference....in fact it seems like the 14MZ in PCM1024 mode keeps up with the 3 CCPM servos much better then the 9Z did. Time will tell as I play with the radio more and actually use it in flight.

Currently I am stuck on getting the GYRO menu to work with my GY401.
I know I am overlooking something but when I switch from AVCS to Normal it doesn't go to normal. I will play with it more later. I can't select a negative ATV number and am confused about it.

Thanks to all that have responded!

Michael

I had only one 5014 that I got with my 14MZ when I bought it at first. I to could tell a new crispness or something like that when I setup the other helis and planks with 149's on the 14MZ. Once I got used to the 5014 and 14MZ combo and learned I did not have any lockout or anyother problems you read about sometimes, I called Mac and ordered more 5014's. I only have 1 149 left in a plank and since it is not eCCPM, I will probably not upgrade it.

On another note, I have found that crashing 149's in my TREX kills them off fast, I know at least 3 people using the 5014 in their TREX that have survived many wrecks and are astill working great. The surface mount technology must be mroe hearty or something because I can kill a 149 in every good TREX crash, I have 3 here ont eh bench that no longer work and a 148 too. What makes the 5014 so much tougher???

Leave the atv for the gyro at 100%
All of the adjustments are done in the gyro menu. You just tell the radio what you want and it knows what to send out to the gyro.
Assign your switch then select NOR or AVCS for each switch position and set your gain, only positive number are used, the TX knows what to do with the +/-.
