After some excellent advice from Chris, and a set-up as per his recommendations (see previous post) I still have not been able to get satisfactory performance out of the Hacker-77- H ESC.

Problems include

No slow ramp up - I have to manually spin the rotor before slowly starting to throttle up. If I don't the blades slip back in the blade holders.

Rpm seems down and occassioanlly with no movement of throttle- Motor rpm suddenely increases by at least 30% for a second or two then drops to the previous level

Several months ago I purchased a Schulze 32.80KA for my F3A pattern ships, and it blew up within the first 20 second test run! Schulze repaired the unit, a faulty Power transistor was the problem.

Anyway the repaired unit arrived just after the H-77 was installed, and as the Schulze is a universal ESC I decided to try it in the Ion to compare with the H-77.

With no more difficulty than installing the Schulze in the Ion I have a nice smooth ramp up , I don't have to spin the rotor blades anymore, and the rpm seems to be at least 50 % up on the H-77. This is a subjective assessment as I have not done any tach tests, but the sound of the motor and the huge power increase compared to the H-77 is so obvious.

After 5 minutes of hovering the Schulze ESC is 37 degrees C, my flightpower packs are 40 C and the Neu is 67C.

Anyone had similar probs with the H-77 and is a fix available.

I have not seen another Ion fly, so am going solo in more ways than one.

Hi Luke

I'm thinking you must have a defective 77. -But- I have recently been in contact with another guy who has experienced some of your symptoms, namely the inability of the control to achieve full power. After a conversation with Sean Plummer at AeroModel, he found that there is a sort of a back door into the software that will allow you to reset the way that the control senses full throttle. This is done with stick programming and not the ProgBox. A call to Sean may be helpfull to you. It also seems to me that perhaps you do not have a "heli" version of the control. I say this as I do not know if the slow start on the heli version can even be changed. I wonder if maybe you somehow got an airplane version that has the wrong sticker on it.

The schultze is a great control, I have one of them, but it's just too pricey for most at something like $400+... if memory serves. It's smaller counterpart, the 32-55 is also a good control and a good bit less expensive, but can be thermalled off by even my flying in this helicopter.

Luke,

I am experiencing the same symptoms with my 77-O-Heli:
- Need to hand spin the rotor.
- Lowering of max RPM on spoolup i.e. it doesn't lock at max RPM, but drops slightly.
- Very low power compared to first 20 flights (and seems to be decreasing from flight to flight).

Also, these are the beeps I am getting when I connect the ESC:
1x dual-tone beep followed by 5 single-tone beeps.
Is this the normal sequence of beeps to be expected?
Btw, I do not have the progbox, but have reprogrammed it with stick programming.

I wish the backdoor reset procedure could be posted here.

Hi Luke

I have the same problem with start up, If I don't spool up by hand the machine can get very ugly. Seems there's no soft start
