View Full Version : Programming the 14mz...

I have had the 14mz now for a few days and had some time to
program it. I have some questions:
Is it normal for the short sound files to not play at times? Sometimes mine don't play when the switch is thrown...and other times they do?
The programming of the Pitch and Throttle curves is very confusing to me at this point in time. Maybe I just have to get use to it more but I have read from others that this is so also. My 9Z's Pitch and Throttle curves are much easier to do and understand what's going on...
The 14mz has zero pitch in the middle. What if I want to still have 0 pitch there but with a different rate setting? Can I still have it show zero pitch in the middle with a rate setting different then the default, intead of physically changing my linkages?
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks,
Michael

Yes, sound files seem to run at lower priority and tend to cut-out at different points (depending on what's going on).
Programming the curves is actually quite simple once you get used to which button does what and how to select points. Since everything is a curve (even in AFR-D/R), you'll be able to adjust things quite easily in time.
If I understood what you're asking, you can adjust the pitch "display" by going into the Pitch menu, selecting the Angle button and then adjusting the High, Center, Low pitch values.

As far as sound files playing or not I havent tried it yet.
The throttle and pitch curves will be more confusing only because there are a lot more things that you can do with them. Once you play with it for a little while it will make perfect sense. I felt the opposite about my 9Z pitch curves, I thought that the 9Z was a lot harder to setup.
As for as the ) pitch I am not sure exactly what you are asking.

Ok so I had some time now to understand how to program the 14mz as far as pitch and throttle goes. I must admit now that it isn't all that bad once you get used to all the parameters. I am not an expert yet but now at least I can program the curves and get them to match what the transmitters display says (as in the degree of pitch).
I have set up all my models (3 helis and 1 plane)....and it didn't take me all that much time. All my models are using PCM 1024. Currently I am building a new plane and will most likely use the G3 receiver in it. I may however opt to put it in one of my 60 helis just to check out the 2048 resolution.
As far as the channel assignments are concerned I am keeping with the 9Z for now. I can't switch the 9Z over to the 14MZ's configuration so for now it will have to do. It is easier enough to re-program those channel assignment in the 14mz when I am ready to try it. Then I will sell my 13 year old 9ZHPS which is still in excellent condition.
The 14MZ is a fine radio.....I just wish I could have bought one for $1500 or so and not $500 more! It may be too nice to bring to the flying field!!!

Its like a new car.
You just have to get that first scratch in it so htat you can start using it.

Michael,
Don't feel bad. I have been using JR transmitters for quite some time when I got the 14MZ. Talk about a big change. Luckily I got Eric Larson to walk me through a program and I copied it over like 6 times. Once I played with it a while though it got easier. I don't know anything about the sounds or music files though since I haven't used any of that yet. Once I figured out that there is a LOT of the programming I probably won't ever use on helicopters, it made it a lot easier.

There are also a bunch of programs here in the top post in this 14MZ forum you can use for examples. It may help you a good bit.
