Hi Alan
A Belt cp, or any collective pitch heli will teach you a lot about set up etc, but you'll have to take your time learning to fly with it. Even minor crashes can bend and break all sorts of parts.
For a first single rotor heli, if you want something a lot more robust, consider an FP heli like the Honey Bee FP. Ultimately not as stable as a Belt, but the great thing is that it's tough enough that most crashes require little or no repairs, enabling you to just carry on practicing rather than spending most of your time fixing the heli instead. Also with the HBFP, you can use your Lama lipos and charger, no need to buy the lipo upgrade.
Good luck with whatever you choose
