Well the Ron Lund Video is 75% DONE but only (2) VIDEOS

What is that you say? Well if you have not seen them, I have put (2) of the Ron Lund 2008 event videos are here. But I am gonna let you in on a little secret. Categorizing and organizing up front will save you time on the back end.

At Rons event I shoot 2 1/2 hours of footage. As usual I will never be able to use it all but there is no such thing as too much footage either When I am going though all the event footage I will label it like [Jason Indoor 1] then I will either watch or "jog" though all the footage looking for any special parts. If I find anything interesting I will rename the clip something like [Jason Indoor 1 - David laughing] to remind myself about that scene.

It took me the better part of 7 hours to pull the 2 1/2 hours of footage but now I know I will be able to whip though the rest of the videos pretty fast, as they are all labeled. A by product of this process is the teaser video. I usually start with the music I think sets the "feel" then play the music looking at all my labeled footage thinking about would would "fit". I would not be able to do this without have gone though all the footage FIRST and KNOWING where to find it.

What can you take from this? Well, if you think you are going to shoot a few hours a RC helicopter footage and do a "good" video in an hour. You are probably going to be disappointed.

Most people don't understand the time it takes to get a good video edit. It always AMAZES me how the NFL guys can throw together video montages of stuff that just happened in the game when going to or coming from commercial. I guess it's easy when you have all that hi def footage going STRAIGHT to hard drive.

My next video cam will be a high def cam that records straight to disk!

Getting the clips from the media to the disk consumes most of my time!
