Good Time at Cincy Fun Fly

Posted 05-11-2009 at 01:06 PM by skigolfmike

A bunch of us from Dayton went down to the Cincy fun fly at Joyce park in Hamilton this weekend. It was the usual suspects with myself, James, Justin, Scotty, Chago and a couple more that I don't remember their names. Bill (billbill242000) also stop by, but he didn't bring a heli.

The weather was interesting, with 25 mph winds gusting to 40, making flying challenging. Unbelievably, there were only 2 minor crashes that I witnessed. One was a tail strike on a 600 that took out the...

HK-450 Flight #22: Back in service

Posted 05-09-2009 at 06:38 AM by nasukaren

The HK-450 is back in service. After throwing the main blades due to the feathering shaft bolt working its way out, I got the parts to put it back in service. Namely, it lost one of the main blade bearings in the process, as well as the dampers.

New dampers and a new bearing later, the HK-450 flies again. A nice 10 minute flight. I'd post the EagleTree data but the data logger program is not working properly on my EEE PC.

Belt CP Flight #31 +32 - Longer blades and crash #10

Posted 05-09-2009 at 06:33 AM by nasukaren

For the longest time, I was flying on 315mm wooden blades. I hadn't even noticed that they were shorter until one day it seemed odd. They must have been floating around my spare parts box.

In any case, these woodies had lasted a pretty long time, through thick and thin. A small blade strike during flight #31 snapped them finally. Replaced them with 325mm and put in a new feathering shaft. Took the opportunity to 90 / zero out all the controls.

The remainder of flight 31...

Nitro Engine Woes

Posted 05-08-2009 at 11:10 AM by skigolfmike

Well, it took some doing, but I managed to screw up 2 perfectly good working helis. It wasn't enough that my T600 and T700 were working great, I had to try and make them better. It's mice when changes go seamlessly; however, in this case that was not about to happen.

Just to set the stage, I have a YS50ST in the 600 and a YS91SR in the 700. I had an OS bubbleless clunk in the 600 on Hayes clunk line and the stock clunk, in the center hole on Hayes line on the 700. After Huntsville,...
