So Much Time, So Little to Do (Sorry - Reverse That)

Posted 11-14-2008 at 07:17 AM by skigolfmike

This has been a crazy week. Between rebuilds, waiting for parts, online sim sessions and squeezing in a flight here and there, I've been keeping pretty busy. It's been a learning experience too.

The online Phoenix sim sessions are a blast. I just have to remember to turn the volume down in the head set so I don't start yelling. Boy did I hear about that. The good thing is trying to do some new stuff. If nothing else you get better at unusual attitude recoveries. Plus it's a...

Choosing motor and ESC for Trex 450XL

Posted 11-12-2008 at 05:18 PM by hel(i)boy

Hi guys,
Im new to Helis, but planning to get a Trex 450 XL HDE kit. Well KX850168TA 430X (3550KV) Brushless motor and 25A Brushless ESC RCE-BL25G are recommended for the 450 XL.
But will switching 3550KV with a 4050KV motor effect anything? As far as i can see, the only difference is current rating.
Actually was planning to add some payload to the heli, so going for the higher KV.
And for the ESC. would it be a problem, if we supply...

Miscellaneous Ramblings

Posted 11-10-2008 at 12:00 PM by skigolfmike

This week I put the new elevator lever on my T600NP and test flew it, I finished building an F3P indoor foamie and went to an indoor fly-in.

The elevator lever test was interesting. First of all I could not get the engine to run. Turns out I had fixed a leak in the pipe header and it was 25* colder, so I was way lean. Then the heli was way out of trim, needed 8 clicks of down, to trim it. Worked great once I got it trimmed and the engine running reliably. Being that far out of...

increased cyclic throws on protos

Posted 11-10-2008 at 11:22 AM by akshaw

A few weeks ago let Pete Campbell try my protos. He said to fly 3D cyclic throws need to be increased to the point that the ball on the swash doesn't show when the stick is pushed to the limit. So I adjusted throws today and tried it out. The flip rate was incredibly fast! Where before it seemed sluggish going over, now it reminds me of how my trex flipped when I had it on a 4S setup.
