HK-T500: Flights #4-5

Posted 08-07-2009 at 11:29 PM by nasukaren

Two flights this morning. Still getting everything tuned. Blade tracking much better. Tail still jerky but when it came down, found that the belt was loose and the tail rotor blade grips were too. Tightened them up and adjusted the servo position, will see tomorrow.

Spektrum satellite receiver pigtail also broke.

Tarbosaurus 450: Flight 96

Posted 08-06-2009 at 11:43 AM by nasukaren

At the Tuscurora RotorBash, didn't get much stick time as I was mostly trying to debug my HK-T500. At the end, decided to fly the Tarbo.

Something is weird with the Tarbo. Not sure if it's gyro or config related. It's not flying well. Very unsteady tail. I might try replacing the gyro to see if that's the proximate cause.

In any cause, an unsteady but manageable flight. Did a flip to show off. Hehehheheh.

Haven't flown since then, the HK-T has been consuming...

Haven't been updating my blog nearly enough, sorry faithful readers....

I built my HK-T500 on the eve of the Tuscurora RotorBash and maidened it there.

Flight #1: Sunday July 26th
=====================
Just couldn't get the head tracking properly and sponsored were hogging the field, flying without spotters, buzzing the n00bs and otherwise being jerks. Nonetheless, it flew!

Flight #2: Tuesday July 28

Tarbosaurus 450: Flights 90-95 (+maintenance blog)

Posted 07-23-2009 at 12:12 PM by nasukaren

Three flights yesterday and three today. New belt in the tail, lubed up with PTFE/silicon oil. New tail rotor gear + bearings.

Still some wriggle but I think I have think I narrowed it down today to the range of throw on the tail. I must have set it up improperly in my last big crash. Hopefully when I fix it tonight, it'll solve the last of my niggling tail issues.

ES600 Flights #12-13 and Tarbo #89

Posted 07-21-2009 at 07:48 AM by nasukaren

Great day at the Berlin airfield on Sunday. Gorgeous weather. And more people than I've ever seen -- with some fantastic nitro bigbird flying by Albert and Bob. Only wish is that folks maintained a safer flightline!

My Tarbo stripped its belt on spoolup. A brand new Mavrikk... Argh. One problem I think was that the tail was hitting the tall grass. The other is that I reused the boom from the last crash and it was bent at a very small angle that caused the belt to rub against the boom...
